Once again, Ukraine--a war-besieged nation--somehow puts the US to shame.

Long story short, there were allegedly issues with the Ukrainian government organizations charged with protecting against corruption, and the Parliament passed a bill that effectively disbanded it, and President Zelensky signed the bill into law.

Unfortunately, this all had a terrible look to it, as it gave the appearance that Ukraine was acceding to old ways of corruption that were rampant during earlier days of Yanukovych.

The Ukrainian people were not happy about this at all, and took to the streets in protest. All peaceful and respectful, but large protests nationwide nonetheless.

Unlike Yanukovych in 2013-14, however, Zelensky did not violently sic his police force on the protesters.

Instead, he listened to their concerns, and within days, a new bill was drafted, restoring the anti-corruption organizations but with better oversight. The parliament approved it and Zelensky has signed it into law.

Crisis avoided.

That's Ukraine, a country that has been at war since 2014, and under a full-scale invasion since 2022. Yesterday, 13 civilians were killed in Kyiv alone in missile and drone strikes.

Meanwhile, here in the US, Trump just got his own jet from a foreign government that will cede to his control when he (supposedly) leaves office, is shaking down media organizations and law firms left and right, has his own personal lawyers being appointed to the DOJ and the courts to help cover up his own scandals, spent a week at his own Scottish golf club on our own dime, and is trying to quelch down on insider stock trading restrictions for elected officials.

Rather embarrassing for "the greatest nation on earth" and the "shining city on a hill", no?
