The Presidential Fitness Test is coming back.
President Donald Trump will sign an executive order Thursday afternoon reinstating the national fitness assessment implemented in public schools from 1956 until 2013, a White House official told NBC News.
The role of administering the test will fall to Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has been vocal in his concern about childhood obesity and whose Make America Healthy Again report in February attributed the issue, in part, to sedentary lifestyles.
The White House official said Trump aims to address Americans declining health and physical fitness, including crisis levels of obesity, chronic disease, inactivity and poor nutrition.
President Trump wants every young American to have the opportunity to emphasize healthy, active lifestyles creating a culture of strength and excellence for years to come," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.

(41,108 posts)I hated all my PE teachers in grade school & high school. Not one was interested in helping non-athletic girls get fit, but rather liked to shame them (us). Years later, in my late 30s, I discovered Gilad's exercise program in the early morning & loved his "you can do this" attitude & then I found Charlene Pricket with the same attitude, & that led me to video fitness where there were tons of instructors with the right attitude & for the first time ever I started exercising regularly. Having a good experience with exercise early in life is important. An arrogant coach can negatively impact an out-of-shape kid's attitude about exercise for years.
