Why are there plane disasters every day in the news?

Are there more disasters occurring everywhere than before? OR is the media choosing to cover them because they are looking for exciting stories that will keep people interested in their coverage?

Anybody else notice this "air disaster or near disaster" du jour?

3. Hmm, I didn't think of that. It starts at the top of the chain and then gets worse and worse.

Jeju Air Flight 2216 was a Korean airline that crashed in Korea, fatalities: 179. It appears the pilots shut down the wrong engine after a bird strike.

and:

Air India Flight 171, crashed in India, fatalities 241
Appears one of the pilots shut off the fuel on purpose just after take off.

Small planes crash everyday. Large commercial aircraft are very safe but there are many near misses very year. If planes become a topic of interest to the public, more stories are printed or make it higher up on the page.

6. Yep. But the question I have is where did all this public attention start translating into daily stories? When did they

Hi CTYankee, yes, there are definitely more disasters than before Trump took office. No, the media is not choosing to cover them now. This is an interesting question, how people construct reality. But definitely there are more crashes now.

In just about every dimension, this administration is trying to weaken the foundations out there that we build over generations to keep the trains on the tracks in this society. The FAA is one of many but one I care about deeply. It is an absolute travesty and a betrayal of our citizens to rip up our national Institute of Health, CDC, Dept of Education, EPA, so many things - but Lord have mercy, keep the airplanes from crashing, please. The FAA was stressed out before all of this with retirements, which one smart person I know called the end of expertise.

Although I like to avoid alarmism, I have to say this is a freaking five alarm fire.

But I'm also concerned about the question. How would you trust a determination of fact that airplane crashes have escalated versus media bias of some kind? Can you talk a little bit more about that, if you feel like it?

Thanks and good luck with everything.

8. You make perfect sense. So there is a breakdown in air safety and at the same time media interest in covering more

stories. Hmm.

One thing, tho: has increased media coverage resulted in a downturn in air travel?

Remember the summer everyone was being bitten by a shark? How about the summer where child abductions were in the news every single day?

Sorry a Fox News host and a contest on a reality tv show years ago has no business being in charge.

My sister in law is a flight attendant for Delta and would have been working that flight that was going to Amsterdam. But she swapped with another friend and flew to London instead. Now she is stranded there because the plane they were going to fly back was used to replace the Amsterdam flight. When I heard it on the radio today I told my husband to call her because she usually does this route. I love to travel but am hesitant to fly under this incompetent regime.
