I hear a LOT about these "settlements," but settlements for WHAT exactly? They sound more like extortions to me.
I saw the table of "settlements" paid out by various academic institutions and commercial enterprises, often media conglomerates.
The table I saw came from Axios:
Harvard U. $500 million
Columbia U. $221 million
Kirkland & Ellis (law firm) $125 million
Latham & Watkins (law firm) $125 million
A&O Shearman (law firm) $125 million
Simpson Thacher & Bartlett $125 million
Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft (law firm) $100 millioin
Milbank (law firm) $100 million
Skadden Arps (law firm) $100 million
Willkie Farr & Gallagher (law firm) $100 million
Paul Weiss (law firm) $40 million
Paramount/CBS $16 million (so far)
Meta $25 million
Disney/ABC $16 million
X $10 million
And some etc. I know he tried to shake down the law firm my daughter works for, and they told him to shove it where the sun don't shine.
But for what? A "settlement" implies, as far as I know, a willingness to admit granting compensation for some perceived wrong or wrongdoing. In these cases, the only wrongdoing appears to be a fantasy on the part of Trump and his propagandists. That, and a bunch of loud bluster couched in incomprehensible legalese.
I can only wish an uncorrupted Supreme Court would order him to pay it all back with interest some day in the not-too-distant future.
I know, I know. Godot will show up first.
