Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo you agree with Peter Baker (NYT) who say that Americans will know
if the job market is bad. So basically, it doesn't matter if trump cooks the books.
The economist who's on Nicole's show with him(Ruhle is subbing for her) made the point that we need good numbers so that people can trust the information they're getting.
I think Baker is doing some of that normalizing we've been hearing about.

P.S.: I searched for Bakers name in the long section on Trumps presidency in my 2020 book Lying in State: Why Presidents LieAnd Why Trump Is Worse and found this: In another front-page analysis, Times White House correspondent Peter Baker described the drama of impeachment as playing out against conspiracy theories, which he said were everywhere, adding that conspiracy theorists are in the White House and Congress, though he neglected to point to a single conspiracy theory that did not emanate from the Republican side of the aisle.

(11,212 posts)There is no good reason to lie to the American public. Americans are busy working their ass off for the billionaire class and they are entitled to know the fucking truth about the economy.

(1,382 posts)If you, or people you know, are out of work and have a tough time finding a job, you're gonna think the market is bad even if the official numbers might be good. A lot of economics of kind of "feels" more than reality - otherwise Biden would have been much more popular.
