Amid Trump's tariff shock, India informs US it won't purchase F-35 fighter jets

(I don’t think anyone could have predicted this🙄 )

The decision comes amid growing uncertainty in U.S.-India trade ties. Trump’s abrupt announcement of a 25% tariff on Indian goods—set to take effect August 7—has caught Indian officials off guard.

India has reportedly rejected the U.S. offer to buy F-35 stealth fighter jets, signaling a clear shift in its defense strategy even as it weighs options to ease tensions sparked by President Donald Trump’s 25% tariff threat.

According to a Bloomberg report, New Delhi conveyed its disinterest in the high-end warplanes during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s February visit to the White House. Trump had pitched the F-35 sale as a key plank in deepening bilateral ties, but India prefers a model focused on joint design and domestic manufacturing over expensive off-the-shelf acquisitions.

But it should have never been this way to begin with.

Why we allow a foreign country to manufacture much of the drugs that we rely on is a strategic mistake of biblical proportions.

Yikes!!! Are we now selling the idea that we can sabotage these planes.

Custom sabotage?

YIKES!!!

It’ll take years to win back the good faith and confidence of our soon-to-be FORMER international friends.

I don’t get this guy. How does this move of his reinforce our friendships with our allies? I just don’t see it. He’s steering us directly to America Alone, and that won’t help ANYTHING or ANYONE (except our adversaries).

…unless he’s secretly working with our adversaries…?

US loses F-35 orders which not only help the US economy but strengthen the US defense companies to help provide better US defense.
Meanwhile, suppliers of adversaries or other countries get that money to help their economies and help themselves get stronger at defense.
American customers and consumers pay the tariffs (tax).
India, like Canada and the EU, distances its allegiance with the US and gets cozier with other countries further weakening the US relative to the rest of the world

Who couldn't have predicted TFG would repeatedly triple down on stoopid .... ?

He wants India's to say he negotiated a peace deal and nominate him the way Pakistan did.

Pakistan is a failed economy and needs money so that's why they did it.

I'm guessing India will buy the defense equipment from others.

There's a non-zero chance that Trump turned on India because of some hitch in his private dealings.

Pakistan also gave credit to Trump for the india Pakistan " ceasefire" and nominated him for Nobel peace prize. Pakistan is a failed economy and relies on foreign money so they did everything Trump asked.

India has refused to go along with the bs narrative.

It's the usual bs from Trump.

America has conclusively demonstrated that it is an unreliable ally. The fact that overt racism and religious intolerance have emerged as part of the American brand makes disengagement an easy sell politically.

Want to down a modern fighter jet? How about sending a swarm of extremely tiny drones with explosives while the jets are still on the ground? Have them go into the engines and kablooey!
