How MAGA will gradually leave TSF

The way he's portrayed.

Trump has leaned hard on the meme that "Nobody likes a loser." Put together all the images and messages he's put forward, esp. his arm raised in defiance after the supposed assassination attempt in Pennsylvania (FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!), his constant self-acclamations (BEST PRESIDENT EVER ELECTED, BEST GOLFER, BEST ANYTHING). That was then. This is now.

Despite FOX and the retreat of "legacy media", images are escaping to the American public, showing Trump to be OLD, weakened, tired. And his voice, while at times can be loud, is still fading. His walk has an unbalance, with an uneven gait. His hair is thinning and can't be disguised with gold and combovers.

But most of all, with the tariffs, prices will increase while paychecks won't. MAGAs, like the rest of us, will find that they can only buy 2-3 items with $20 at their supermarkets. And wait for the outcry for the price of coffee.

MAGAs may be unduly loyal to Trump, but they do have memories. They remember TSF proclaiming, "We're going to win so much that soon you'll get tired of winning!" -- but this doesn't feel like winning. And he can't run away from it.

Even if Trump restarts his rallies again, you may see SOME MAGAs show up, just to see him in person, but the cheering will be less and sporadic.

Now, this doesn't mean that they'll start voting for Democrats. But they won't be showing up at the polls too.

Memories? The guy caused covid to become 1000x worse than it should have been. Their reality is whatever he says it is. If you think these people will snap out of it, maybe they arent the only delusional ones?

Look to Russia for an example of what is possible. They literally believe Ukrainians are evil nazis, but then they go and rape and murder the ukrainians? What sense does any of that make? There is no logic here

While I know you’re not trying to allege that they’re blaming him will help us at all, because it will not.

He has 3 1/2 years minimum left to destroy this country and all of our institutions, to take our Social Security/Medicare money. Red states will illegally gerrymander that the Supreme Court will say is legal, Democratic states will try to do something and the same Supreme Court will say theirs is not legal. this will happen. Willing to take any bets at this time. 😡

Having said all that I sure hope you are right it would give some satisfaction at a time when we’re all going to be suffering terribly, and I mean terribly. Can you imagine what’s going to happen this winter with the flu and a flu vaccine that’s not been properly prepared because of that fucking Kennedy and the next epidemic, going to get sick many will die.

It's tribalism. They see the worst Republican as better than the best Democrat. And be honest: don't you see the worst Democrat as better than the best Republican?

And why do they choose the Republican tribe over the Democratic tribe? Well, why wouldn't they? Every radio station and news outlet gives them reason to believe that either Democrats/liberals are trying to interfere with their lives or "both sides do it" whenever something unpleasant happens that they can't hide. We lost the ideological war in 1994 when Clinton signed the Telecommunications Act into law, permitting corporations to take control of almost all media in America. It's a generation of misinformation. Of course people are going to vote against their interests. They can't see their interests.

12. I said this under Biden
Mon Aug 4, 2025, 08:19 AM
Aug 2025

Biden's economy delivered more gains for the middle and working classes than any in a generation. Wage growth exceeded inflation easily and for an extended period of time, these gains were concentrated on the lower income earners. He had record job growth, robust GDP growth, and historically high health care coverage. Savings were at all time highs as were retirements and the net worth of the bottom 80%. Given he inherited a disaster from Trump, his economy was a miracle and should have saw him re-elected in a landslide.

But here's what I said at the time. The corporate media and the GOP were able to convince most of the country the economy was terrible, and when the economy is really terrible under Trump, they'll convince people the opposite. The economy is faltering quickly, people are losing their jobs, businesses are closing, prices are higher, the economy isn't producing many jobs anymore, and wages will start falling soon too. The media is so in the bag that MAGA will be standing in soup lines talking about how great everything is now economically.

That jobs report Friday happens under Joe Biden and it would have been a month long story, it will be off the landing pages by mid week because it's Trump. I remember one month under Biden, we were expecting a monster month of like 320,000 job gains and instead got a mere 170,000, the media went crazy for weeks with the "biggest jobs miss ever!" Yet it was still a solid month for jobs gains. The corporate media wants lower wages and a terrified work force and they know that Trump is working hard to deliver that for them, so we're not going to get the coverage of the collapsing economy that people think.

But ultimately, as the shock of higher prices sets in for the trumpers, media coverage or lack thereof will be irrelevant, as the every day reality of high inflation and unaffordability sets in.

17. Propaganda is strong
Mon Aug 4, 2025, 08:58 AM
Aug 2025

I think people, especially Trumpsters, will believe the propaganda over their own eyes. I've already hear MAGA people saying how great it is that Trump slashed drug prices across the board a few months back and they're really noticing it already. Trump made an executive order that had no force of law a few months ago, drug prices are rising, but these people think they're falling.

And when he puts his stooge in at the BLS, they can make those numbers say whatever they want, sure, the media will make a stink for a few months, but by next year it will just be the data being reported. Can't you picture the headlines next year already, "Economy stays hot as unemployment his 0.2% with 1.5 million new jobs created per month. Inflation now at 0.0% while GDP growth hit a record 20% last quarter."

I don’t think propaganda can override people’s direct experience when they go shopping and see the prices or lose healthcare or their jobs. There may be a few cultists who are unmoved, but most will have no choice but see the reality.

20. Not so sure
Mon Aug 4, 2025, 09:21 AM
Aug 2025

People didn't believe their own eyes when everyone was working and making more money under Joe Biden. All they could think about what the brief year of inflation and it completely overrode the raises they all got, or the fact their saving and 401Ks were at record highs.

And the Biden gains were concentrated on the working poor. Even during the worst of the inflation, the bottom 20% of wage earners were seeing wage growth in excess of inflation, and that growth continued after inflation abated. Too many of those people ignored the reality of their own bank accounts in favor of FOX News propaganda., which was basically all news propaganda as far as Biden's economy was concerned.

Even here on DU, several posters would post the actual data on the economy and get pushback from many DUers. The media said everything was shit and all the data in the world couldn't change the minds of people, even a lot of Democrats.

What I am hoping is that people will start to look at the news more critically, it really is in the bag for Trump.

the word "supposed". We have got to stop this business of saying that it was all some sort of setup. I absolutely believe that Trump is way too chickenshit to let even a highly trained sniper "wing" him on the ear, much less some kid who probably didn't have a lot of target practice. We sound like the reich wing yammering about Pizzagate when we do this.

There are a million and one reasons to hate Trump, we don't need to manufacture anything out of thin air.
