U.S. health officials have told more than a half-dozen of the nations top medical organizations that they will no longer help establish vaccination recommendations.
The government told the organizations on Thursday via email that their experts are being disinvited from the workgroups that have been the backbone of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.
The organizations include the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.
Im concerned and distressed, said Dr. William Schaffner, a Vanderbilt University vaccine expert who for decades has been involved with ACIP and its workgroups.
He said the move will likely propel a confusing fragmentation of vaccine guidance, as patients may hear the government say one thing and hear their doctors say another.

(113,971 posts)I think the only thing to do is for AMA, American Academy of Pediatrics, IDSA, American Public Health Association, American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, the former CDC epidemiology alumni of the Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS), and academic & yes, commercial vaccinologists, virologists, and epidemiologists (and probably a few others not yet included) need to establish their own consensus guidelines and take it to the insurers (to dare them not to cover these recommended vaccines).
The same for the national Prevention guidelines for cancer and other screenings--U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF)
I am devastated by what RFK Jr and Trump are doing to CDC, NIH, FDA, USDA and others, but we are simply going to have to take some of this away--for now.

vaccine Phase III clinical trial is underway at sites throughout the country. (May be a factor if all goes well in a couple years from now).
Influenza also has been approved by FDA for 2025-2026 season, based largely on review of worldwide circulating strains (especially in the southern hemisphere). The recommendations were announced on March 13, 2025, after a review of U.S. and global surveillance data and are similar to last year's strain selection. There should not be delays in availability. Check with your pharmacy, Costco, or provider to see when they expect to receive.
RFK Jr and his band of morons do not appear to have had a chance to decimate either program for the coming Fall/Winter. I do worry about any moves for insurers to limit more coverage, though.
