A protégé of Elon Musk and former DOGE staffer was injured in an attempted carjacking early Sunday morning in D.C., a police report said, in an attack that captured the attention of President Donald Trump and reinspired his threats to take over the nations capital.
If D.C. doesnt get its act together, and quickly, we will have no choice but to take Federal control of the City, and run this City how it should be run, and put criminals on notice that theyre not going to get away with it anymore, Trump wrote Tuesday on Truth Social. Billionaire Elon Musk, who helmed the U.S. DOGE Service, wrote on X that a DOGE team member was attacked, and Musk called to federalize D.C. A police report identified the victim as Edward Coristine, who is also known by the nickname Big Balls. Trumps Truth Social post was accompanied by an image of a young person smeared in blood, sitting shirtless on the ground.
D.C. police have arrested a 15-year-old boy and girl from Maryland and charged them with unarmed carjacking, the department said in a news release. Two people familiar with the details of the case, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said the suspects are being held at the citys youth detention center.
The attack is the latest seemingly random assault on a federal staffer in Washington, intensifying scrutiny of the nations capital from Congress and the White House. In June, 21-year-old congressional intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym was killed in crossfire near the Districts convention center. He was a rising senior at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, working for Republican Rep. Ron Estes of Kansas. No one has been charged in his death.

MPD said the man bloodied the photo on Trump's social media was a victim of an unarmed carjacking in Northwest on Sunday.

WASHINGTON Youth crime is the focus of President Donald Trump's latest threat to take back federal control over Washington, D.C., calling on the District to try minors as young as 14 years old as adults or else face losing self-governance.
"Local 'youths' and gang members, some only 14, 15 and 16 years old, are randomly attacking, mugging, maiming and shooting innocent citizens, at the same time knowing that they will be almost immediately released," Trump alleged on his TruthSocial platform on Tuesday. "They are not afraid of law enforcement, because they know nothing ever happens to them, but it's going to happen now! The law in D.C. must be changed to prosecute these 'minors' as adults."
Trump attached a picture of a violent scene -- a shirtless man sitting on the ground with a bloodied nose -- to the post, apparently a victim of an attack. Speaking from the White House later that day, the president said the victim had been an employee at the Department of Government Efficiency.
"You saw that young man who was beat up by a bunch of thugs in D.C.," Trump said. "Either they're gonna straighten their act out in terms of government and in terms of protection, or we're going to have to federalize it and run it the way it's supposed to run."

(3,706 posts)I think he's afraid he'll get January 6th'd so he wants to build up a completely impenetrable military presence around himself. Of course if true, one would logically ask "what the fuck is he up to that he thinks he needs even MORE protection from the citizenry than he already has?"

(2,499 posts)Unlike the fake assassination attempt, this sounds credible. The kid should have known better than to hang out on the streets of DC at 3am. Sadly, however, it does give Trump a convenient excuse to bully the city.
