'Your silence is the face of this monstrous cruelty,' hostage's brother tells UN Security Council

The United Nations Security Council convened Tuesday evening to discuss the plight of the hostages being held by Hamas in Gaza, following the release of harrowing footage showing Evyatar David and Rom Breslevsky in captivity. Ilay David, whose brother Evyatar appeared emaciated and abused by Hamas terrorists, warned that, according to experts, his brother and the other hostages “have only days left to live.”

Ilay David told the Security Council: “We know from medical reports that Evyatar, Guy, and the others are on the brink of death. They only have days left. Days! That’s how urgent this is. Each of them has lost half their body weight. My brother weighs about 40 kilograms. The world has heard about Hamas’ atrocities on October 7 and in the 20 months since, but what’s happening to Evyatar and Guy is an act of calculated, deliberate cruelty. We’ve heard the testimonies of returned hostages. When your brother, son or partner is being held in Gaza there is no good news. Even the hope that he’s alive is fading. We don’t know how much longer they’ll survive.

--snip--

Ilay added: “In the latest video, another chilling detail emerged: you can see the fat hand of a terrorist entering the frame — the hand of his captor. It’s visibly thicker than my brother’s leg. Hamas showed what we’ve known for months: the terrorists have plenty of food. The only ones starving are my brother and the 49 other hostages. “From testimonies, we know the terrorists are in the next room. They are choosing to starve them as part of a sick campaign, using hunger as a weapon of war. This is a humanitarian crisis — yet no one here, or in other UN bodies, is talking about it. Aid flows into Gaza, but the hostages are denied even the most basic food. They haven’t received a single crumb.”

Evyatar’s brother concluded: “Everyone bears responsibility — the world’s leaders, every member of this council, and the international community. Your silence is the face of this monstrous cruelty — it is complicity. I beg you: don’t let them die.”

and selling them to their neighbors at exorbitant prices.

Aid parcels sell for 'crazy prices' at local markets, says Gazan man

From the window of his apartment in central Gaza, Anas Al-Masry has spotted the silhouettes of parachutes dropping food from the sky.

But he's never been close enough to get his hands on any. Within a couple of hours, he sees the same parcels of aid for sale at local markets.

"The problem is that the packages are sold at crazy prices," he tells me. "This requires cash, and cash is also not generally available in Gaza."

In order to buy cash with funds in his bank account, he says, vendors charge a 55% fee, which he simply cannot afford.

“The Secretary-General condemns in the strongest terms this morning’s attack by Hamas against Israeli towns near the Gaza Strip and central Israel, including the firing of thousands of rockets toward Israeli population centers. The attacks have so far claimed numerous Israeli civilian lives and injured many hundreds. The Secretary-General is appalled by reports that civilians have been attacked and abducted from their own homes. The Secretary-General is deeply concerned for the civilian population and urges maximum restraint. Civilians must be respected and protected in accordance with international humanitarian law at all times. The Secretary-General extends his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and calls for the immediate release of all abducted persons”

A virtue signalling personal statement "attributable to the spokesman" for a UN official is just that and nothing more. Guterres didn't even bother to release the statement himself. He had an underling do it.

Secretary-General

The Secretary-General is the chief administrative officer of the United Nations and head of the UN Secretariat.

https://www.un.org/en/about-us/secretariat

He is the closest you can get to the President of the UN!!!! He said "The Secretary-General condemns in the strongest terms ".
Who is higher in the UN than him? No one!!!!
Of course he doesn't speak for the General Assembly or Security council, no one does. And when you have member countries like Iran, Syria and Russia did you really expect them to?
That's like saying because the US Congress didnt do it but the President did then it doesn't count.
Too funny.

But you just said "The statement isn't even attributable to Guterres." where before it was "the link you posted to a statement attributable to the to the spokesman for Secretary General António Guterres"
So, it is or isnt?
Then,,,,
"The statement isn't even attributable to Guterres. It is attributable to his spokesman."
Didn't you say? "The statement is very clear that the spokesman is speaking for Guterres, and Guterres alone."
"is speaking for Guterres, and Guterres alone."

The statement is attributable to the spokesman. That means that the press is getting the information from the spokesman, rather than directly from the Secretary General himself.

The statement itself contains the information that the Secretary General told the spokesman to impart. That's why the statement consistently uses the third person "the Secretary General".

How dare he tell his spokesman what to impart. A spokesman should never repeat the words and thoughts of the person they work for in the process of being the spokesman. That would be ridiculous.

But lest misinformation dwarf into disinformation, just as a reminder...

--------------------------

That General Assembly vote was taken in October 2023.

In March of 2024, Joe Biden's UN Ambassador Linda Thomas-Green was still trying to get the UN Security Council to pass a resolution condemning Hamas's October 7 rape-torture-murder spree.

She never succeeded.

US: Russia, China 'refuse to condemn Hamas for burning people'

US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas Greenfield claimed that Russia and China vetoed the UNSC condemnation of Hamas for Oct. 7 because it was authored by the US.

Russia and China vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution Friday that condemned Hamas for its October 7 attack against Israel, which was authored by the United States.

How is Hamas getting it?

And can the same pathway be used for the Gazans who have Hamas boot on their neck? I truly don't believe the issue of hunger in Gaza cannot be solved.

Hamas can do that for the Gazans. They could negotiate for their health and well-being - but are being ridiculous.

Wed Aug 6, 2025, 11:00 AM

and it showed that in the past couple months 88% of the aid coming into Gaza was "intercepted either peacefully by hungry people or forcefully by armed actors".

According to the BBC, there is definitely profiteering going on:

Aid parcels sell for 'crazy prices' at local markets, says Gazan man

From the window of his apartment in central Gaza, Anas Al-Masry has spotted the silhouettes of parachutes dropping food from the sky. But he's never been close enough to get his hands on any. Within a couple of hours, he sees the same parcels of aid for sale at local markets.

=================================================

I found this piece of information on the UN OPS app particularly instructive: between aid being offloaded in Gaza and it being collected, 11,000 pallets (9,000 tons) of aid went missing.

According to the UN, trucks on the Gaza side are typically smaller, so that explains the discrepancy in truck numbers, but it doesn't explain the discrepancy in the number of tons/pallets offloaded and the number collected..

Where did 9,000 tons of aid go?

For children in Gaza, Israel, Ukraine and Sudan.

My late in-laws were children of WW2. At least in Mountainous Calabria - they could hide in caves and live off the land.

Where does a child in Sudan hide?
Child in Gaza?
We saw the failure of safe rooms in Israel for Israeli children.
Ukraine - the Russkies are deliberately killing civilians.

...but Hamas is just showing again they don't care about the Gazans...they could have ended all of this months ago, a year ago...turn over the hostages, turn over the weapons, and surrender.

To paraphrase Golda Meir, in order to end this, Hamas needs to love their own people more than they hate the Israelis; they've shown no inclination that they're moving in that direction.
