Asher Watkins, 52, of Dallas, Texas, was struck and gored by the charging Cape buffalo bull on Sunday, killing him instantly, reported Britains Metro newspaper.
Watkins, who frequently shared photos of birds and animals he had killed on social media, was following the beast with a professional hunter and an animal tracker when the buffalo attacked him.
Hunter Hans Vermaak, a spokesman for Coenraad Vermaak Safaris, the company that organized the expedition, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement.
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts we confirm the tragic death of our client and friend Asher Watkins from the USA, he said. This is a devastating incident and our hearts go out to his loved ones. We are doing everything we can to support the family members who are here with us and those back in the United States as they navigate this tragic loss.

(44,804 posts)He will just send his Bambi Killer Son over there, with a bunch of Secret Service Personnel, at taxpayers expense, to kill the animal, much like all his big game macho hunting trips during Trump's first Term.......
Maybe he can take Kristi Noem with him, to show her how it's done, and have a fling with her at the same time?????

(113,962 posts)This was a few weeks ago. American bison are not actually buffalo, though they have long been commonly referred to as such--they have only the fact that they are both bovines in common. Water buffaloes from Asia are a whole different "ballgame," in terms of domesticating/raising them (not that bison are that easy, either, but... )
Sometimes wildlife fights back--that's the truth...

(1,904 posts)Are two animals best avoided, even if you have a gun in hand. I'm not sure what killing a Cape Buffalo gains you, other than a head to hang on your mansion's library wall.

(77,323 posts)... stand out and never shot at again. Genetics like he
or she has should be protected. The man left his home
and traveled thousands of miles to kill that animal but
in his home country of America we have hundreds of
thousands of White Tailed Deer that need to be thinned
out. And that meat can be given to charity too.

(2,956 posts)Stories like this give me a happy, just too bad the other two weren't gored as well.
We were on a small group "follow the great migration" tour in Kenya/Tanzania a number of years ago. We'd stay in each locale for several nights and then move on to the next. They called them tented camps, but they were far from being a tent, very nice individual units. Each evening they would prepare a wonderful dinner for our group of thirteen, and at one locale we had to turn on a switch which lit a bulb outside informing one of the guides, carrying a rifle, to escort us to dinner, as there were Cape buffalo in the area.
I still remember his instruction to us - if challenged, lay down flat on the ground, as they have poor eyesight. If not that, then hug a tree. Never got to test it out, but knowing me I would have ran instead, no way would I have been calm enough to do that.
