Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has vowed not to back down from celebrating Americas proud Confederate history.
We recognize our history, Hegseth told Fox News host Will Cain on Thursday. We dont erase it. We dont follow the woke lemmings off the cliff that want to tear down statues
Were proud of our history.
Hegseth was defending the decision to restore a Confederate monument in Arlington National Cemetery that critics say whitewashes the history of slavery in America.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the Reconciliation Monument, a Confederate memorial criticized for depicting a sanitized view of slavery, will be returned to Arlington National Cemetery.
Shortly after rebuking those who want to remove Confederate symbols, Hegseth made it clear that he is willing to do whatever it takes to defeat his opposition.
Our job is to ensure our enemies know exactly what we will do to them if they threaten us up to and including total war, he said.

(814 posts)As another older white guy I am continuously flabbergasted by white men who are obsessed with their whiteness and/or their manhood to the point that everything seems threatening to them and their place in the world.
These immature manboys constantly need to wave their imagined superiority all over the place, drawing attention to their pathetic inadequacy.

That is not pride. That is delusion with a healthy dose of narcissism.
I mean, let's face it. That dude would not know a real man if one came up and kissed him on the mouth.
Because a real man is one who is comfortable with themselves and their 'image'. They don't make a career out of trying to convince people that they are 'manly'.
That is what insecure children do.

(604 posts)Let's put up statues showing the way slaves were actually treated. The articles of Confederacy signed by every state at the time defended the right to own slaves. That's history. During the Civil War, if any northern soldier prisoners were taken who were black, they were executed as being traitors to the South. There was also a southern military prison in Georgia where prisoners were brutally mistreated and the men who ran it were put on trial after the Civil War. Let's create a monument to the horrors of Andersonville prison. Is Hegseth proud of that history?
Bayard
(30,276 posts)And if he did, he'd be completely in agreement with the Confederacy. So in answer to your question--yes, he is proud of that history. This admin thinks our black population should be back in slavery, working the fields, since they are depleting all brown migrant workers by deportation. I think the Obamas picking cotton is a trump fantasy.
Confederates were traitors to the United States. They still are, from the morons who fly Confederate flags from their trucks around here, to people like Hogsbreath.

I just like throwing this issue back in their faces after try to defend the confederacy in any way.

On a side note, I had a bunch of ancestors who volunteered in the civil war, all of whom were on the Union side. But pretty much the vast majority were in New York and Massachusetts regiments. Only one was from Michigan where I'm originally from. But took part in about ten battles in a course of three years and survived.

They just can't seem to understand the original colonies abandoned that form of non government when some of the colonies were on the brink of war with each other. That's why we got the constitution.
The worst thing you can do to people like this is give them exactly what they've been squalling for since they lost the Civil War.

(3,657 posts)The Confederacy LOST the civil war that they started. They are owed NOTHING. The Confederacy does not legitimately or legally exist anywhere in these United States. It appears that you are aiding and abetting a new Confederate revolt against this country. That makes you guilty of TREASON.
You should immediately be removed as Secretary of Defense, arrested and put on trial for fomenting insurrection and treason against the United States.
This has gone far enough.

(8,103 posts)and this is what he says:
So, now we are the enemy. Okay, I accept that. He and his ilk are my enemy. Two can play the game. I think he should realize that there are far more of us than them, and the ONLY way he can win the game is by calling out the military and ordering them to kill us. He doesn't have enough trained soldiers to take anybody down. The same complaints they had which elected rump (maybe) will be their downfall in a straight up armed conflict. They only want someone else to deliver the work of the nation.
He's not exactly mincing words here. He is telling us that we are the enemy. His enemy. An enemy worthy of being shot because we are not proud of our slave history. He, apparently, is proud of the history. He's proud of it. Well, I'm not his damned slave, and neither are any of you. We the People will fight for our country. WE WILL FIGHT.
It's easy to see that the Orange Pedo has lost control of his cabinet. These people are putting words in his mouth that he can't live up to, for sure. Does rumpy deserve the Nobel Peace Prize when he is setting up for an armed conflict in his own country? I hardly think so.
Stick together, People. We will fight off fascism, and a lot of these people will be in a jail cell.

(5,252 posts)that Confederates were traitors to that government,
that many of these Confederate military officers BROKE THEIR PREVIOUS OATHS
to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and were
thus guilty of actual "treason", besides fighting to protect human slavery,
and that the actual founders and founding principles of his own alleged political party
were what these rebels were fighting against....
and thus there is nothing to be 'proud of' about the so-called 'Confederate states',
or any of their soldiers who fired upon the flag of
the United States of America.
