Just gaudy and ugly.
At least taxpayers did not have to pay for the various gold antique looking objects around the room (such as the ones on the mantle) Those have been in the White House for at least 100 years and many of them were a gift to the WH during the WIlson presidency (I think) They even have their own room: The Vermeil Room, and they are stored in glass fronted cabinets. Jacqueline Kennedy often used the larger pieces as vases in some of the formal areas.

When the Trumps leave the WH, I hope somebody has an inventory of the Vermeil and accounts for every piece.

I love gold decorations, but there are ways of placing them well in a room, a place. This ain't it!
They don't work in the Oval Office, or in the WH in general!
It's never had that kind of atmosphere. Other than maybe gold candle sticks at State diners, and, of course, some gold decorations at Christmas time.

All that all over the walls, the door. All the gold "vases" on the mantle!

And the golden Presidential Seal on the ceiling?! Firstly, I had no idea there was one on the ceiling in general!

All togther; Tacky, Gaudy, and Ostentatious! Yuck!

He should remember what happened to the former residents of that palace.
