Fanone is pissed: Jan 6 Rioter Hired to Investigate FBI Agents
___Less than five years after urging rioters to "kill" police at the Capitol, a former Jan. 6 defendant is working as a senior adviser for the Department of Justice, which has been dramatically remade under the second Trump administration.
NPR has obtained police bodycam footage from multiple angles of the former defendant and current administration official, Jared Wise, berating officers and calling them "Nazi" and "Gestapo." NPR located the footage, which has not previously been published, in a review of thousands of court exhibits from Jan. 6 criminal cases, obtained through legal action by a coalition of media organizations. The Department of Justice had introduced the footage as an exhibit in Wise's trial. NPR also obtained the transcript of Wise's testimony, in which he acknowledged that he repeatedly yelled "kill 'em" as officers were being attacked and tried to explain his actions. Wise was not convicted of any crimes related to Jan. 6, due to President Trump's order to end all Capitol riot prosecutions.
"You guys are disgusting," Wise told the officers, as captured in the bodycam footage. "I'm former law enforcement. You're disgusting. You are the Nazi. You are the Gestapo... Shame on you, shame on you. Shame on you."
""Kill 'em! Kill 'em!" Wise yelled, as he watched the (officers get pushed to the ground). "Get 'em! Get 'em!"

____Wise is currently a senior adviser in the office of the deputy attorney general. A DOJ spokesperson told NPR, Jared Wise is a valued member of the Justice Department and we appreciate his contributions to our team.
In 2023, Wise was indicted for civil disorder, disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds, as well as aiding and abetting an assault on law enforcement officers. His trial took place just days before Trump was sworn into office. Both defense and prosecution had made their closing arguments but the case never got to a verdict or sentence.
On his first day of his second term, Trump signed an executive order issuing sweeping pardons for those who had been convicted for their actions leading up to and during the riot, as well as ordering the prosecutions of any pending cases to cease. Judge Randolph D. Moss with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia dismissed Wises case the day after Trumps inauguration.
He also testified that he thought he would have been morally justified in assaulting the police officers to stop them from what he characterized as excessive force against the rioters, who vastly outnumbered the law enforcement present at the Capitol during the riot.

___In early July, The New York Times reported on the Justice Departments so-called Weaponization Working Group hiring a former FBI agent named Jared Wise. The name was probably unfamiliar to most Americans, but Wises record made him a ridiculous choice for a position in the DOJ: He was a Jan. 6 rioter who was accused of encouraging the insurrectionist mob to kill police officers.
The existence of the Weaponization Working Group is its own absurdity, but adding a rioter to its ranks made matters vastly worse.
While MSNBC and NBC News have not independently verified the bodycam footage, NPR also obtained a transcript of Wises testimony, in which he acknowledged that he repeatedly yelled kill em as officers were being attacked.
He was later seen celebrating after breaching the Capitol.
The Times report from last month explained that Wises new role within the Justice Department was a remarkable development, because it meant that a man who had urged violence against police officers was now responsible for the departments official effort to exact revenge against those who had tried to hold the rioters accountable.
