Science is effectively dead in the US for at least the next 3½ years, and will then take another several years to even get started again. Canceled research doesnt just uncancel itself, and scientists who find opportunity elsewhere wont just come flocking back.
The damage is generational.

All scientific grant funding must now be approved by a political appointee and "demonstrably advance the President's policy priorities."
I wonder where innovation will happen in the future? It won't be in the US

(2,685 posts)The funniest thing about this shit is that Conservatives have cried for years that science research was politically motivated and right in the headline they are admitting that if the science is political in a way Trump wants they wont receive the money. At least now the mask is off and all the talk about small government and non politically motivated education, science and medicine was all bullshit

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
