Donald Trumps approval rating has been holding relatively steady since the end of July. After hitting a second term low of -10.3 on the 22nd, Trumps net approval rebounded to -8.0 by the 25th. Where is Trumps net approval rating as of today? -8.9.
So Trumps approval numbers arent good, but they also havent been getting much worse. For example, here are his net approval ratings in the three latest YouGov/The Economist polls: -14, -15, -14. And its not just YouGov. Lets use Fox News as another example. They show Trump moving from -8 net approval on June 16th to a shocking -8 net approval on July 21st.
What about on the issues? Heres how Trumps net approval rating on the four issues we track has changed between July 25th and today:
Immigration: -4.2 > -4.2
The economy: -12.3 > -12.6
Inflation: - 23.8 > -25.8
Trade: -16.6 > -17.1

(24,102 posts)Silver was fired from 538 after failing to exclude the flood of flawed and fraudulent republican polls from the 538 averages and projection model for the 2022 midterms.
Those Republican polls deliberately manipulated the 538 averages, and created a projection of a 30+ seat pickup for republicans in the house, when they only managed a 2 seat majority.
After the election, Silver did a post mortem column, acknowledged the controversy, shrugged and said Dems couldve done their own shitty polls too.
Silver was fired shortly thereafter, and in 2024 was hired by Peter Thiel as a consultant for Thiels online election betting site, a site that American residents/citizens cant use, IIRC.
Silver also launched his Silver Report, as an attempt to rehabilitate his reputation.
Quoting him as a reputable source only helps him to meet that goal.
Do we really want him to be redeemed and viewed as a honest and trusted source for polling analysis, when he has clearly and repeatedly shown he cannot be trusted?

(137,470 posts)The only other source I can find that does aggregate polling is Real Clear Politics and they're worse than Silver. They quote a lot of odd-ball polls I've never heard of. Silver generally weights the polls he quotes for accuracy whether you agree with the rating or not.

(24,102 posts)ABC has shuttered 538, but G. Elliot Morris, who ran 538 after Silver was fired, still posts on social media- dont know if he has his own site, or substack page, but his analysis is far more trustworthy than Silvers IMO.
