nohypocrisy, please check in

I looked for an update but couldn't find one. Apologies in advance if I missed it.

I just searched and found that the emergency is still in effect in Paterson, NJ.

Paterson boil advisory continues, free water, showers, and portable bathrooms provided

Hope you're OK; please let us know. We are thinking about you.

I'm pioneering as best as possible.

I'm in Prospect Park, a little town (7 blocks by 10 blocks), which is right next to Paterson.

Day 3 without municipal water. Not that I'm bitching, cuz I'm not.

Yesterday, I bought 7 gallons of water, just to flush and I got a free pallet of water (24 bottles of Poland Spring) which were distributed for free, one per household.

Our mayor has been indefatigable in managing the crisis. He posts every couple of hours on F/B. He called in all his markers to get donations of water for residents. (HANG IN THERE!!Big thank you to the generous donation of Wegmans Food in Montvale through the advocacy of my good friend, the Mayor of Montvale, NJ Mike Ghassali. Distribution will continue until 8 PM with one case per housing unit it for the day.) (Thank you to the Islamic Center of Passaic County - ICPC for water cases donation.) (More cases of water were just donated by Unity Christian Reformed Church. Again, quantities are limited.) He organized volunteers to help families fill up 10 jugs of water from a water truck. I doubt he's slept since Friday.

Paterson has a safety warning about boiling water. We don't have that issue because we don't have water yet, save for the recent advent of flushing and a trickle from the faucet for sanitation. I believe North Haledon also has no water. The mayor of Paterson has opened a high school for public showers.

The mayor believes this situation will be fixed in 24-36 hours at best. From what I've heard on the news, the rupture was hard to get to. (I guess it was a trek of 100s of feet to (gasp!) a fraction of a mile with tons of water hurling at the workers before they could plug it for repairs.)

I went to neighboring towns for my needs on yesterday, specifically where I could find a restroom, like a library. I went to the gym for a shower.

The dishes are piling up in the sink b/c I forgot to get paper plates. Oh well . . . .

Otherwise, we're hanging together as neighbors and a community. I hope that families with elderly and/or disabled members are going to be all right. And what I really hope is that there won't be any house fires before everything is fixed.

What an experience. You sound like you’re handling it well, though.

That is amazing about the pipe.

Thanks for checking in.
