On the back porch.

On my back porch this evening, noticed younger Muscoveys have moved in around my pond.
Took me a bit to fathom. But is, definitely.
What did I miss?

I had never seen them before, so when I got back from my dog walk, I looked them up from the picture I took.
They hung around for a few weeks, then off they flew. 🤷‍♀️

fairly large drainage pond, attracting 50 or so storks in the winter, great blue herons, all year, battling sand hill cranes, limpkins, egrets, little greenies, regularly diving osprey, occassional yellow crested night herons, spoonbills, mallards, crested mergansers, and some I've missed. And Muscoveys.
My wife says they moved the Muscoveys. Learned that this is done.
Will find out.

Off google:

"Muscovy ducks are omnivorous, feeding on plants, insects, small fish, and reptiles"

Maybe they disturb smaller ecosystems too much?

how this has been done in the small ponds around me. One of my friends, broke, studying at USF grabbed one once for dinner in early 70's.
The French raise them for consumption.
The old slow ones flying low, will knock your head off if their flight is errant.
