2. Zaffarini used to office with another female attorney who is a rabid Republican.

They practiced law together before they both decided to become interested in politics. Zaffarini ran for elected office and the other attorney was General Counsel to a Republican who was Rick Perry's largest backer.

I guess Zaffarini just couldn't handle doing the right thing.

That everybody can't stay gone forever. The Republicans probably waited till a couple of Democrats were in the building and they held the vote.

5. It was the senate. They literally walked out of the room and down the hall.

Maybe they left the Capitol building, but that was it! No hotels. No running out of state. No airplanes. Two senators simply stayed in the room.

8. It's simply a matter of numbers

There are only 31 seats in the senate and republicans control 20 of them... and it takes 2/3 to make a quorum. All of the Democratic senators would have to leave the state and there's no room for even one to be caught.

The last time around, house democrats had more flexibility. A handful of people could head into the state at a time without risking the quorum-break... and eventually (38 days) it wasn't sustainable. This time around, we had even fewer house members and losing as few as a dozen members would break the strategy... but that's much easier than the "no flexibility at all" that it would take for the democratic senators to play a role.

10. They only left the room. Maybe it was more of a boycott than actual quorum break.

Sargent of Arms wasn't gonna go after any of them as long as there was quorum.

Sen Menendez said they went outside and held a press conference.

I guess if Chuy and Zaffarini attempted to walk out then they all would have been ushered back into the chamber and they would have locked the door.

But as any chef can tell you, it’s in how you combine the ingredients.

But I’m damn serious about this coup bullshit.

They're trying to get republicans to act quickly now that they've resigned themselves to losing this phase of the fight.

It's unconscionable.

Acquiescence is complicity.

Complicity is support.

Those that support the same are the same.

15. The plan is for R's to at least break even on the Gerrymander

Even break even if Blue States also reapport would knock an edge off of any blue wave election. 30+ would probably come up 10-20+ blue. Feels like a win. But, at 10-20 seats you are one plot twist, or black swan event (not to mention vote suppression) away from red control.
