I was skeptical about a Stewart candidacy, but maybe The Daily Show host is the right person to shake up the Democratic presidential primaries.
Democratic Party voters seem open to the idea of a Stewart presidential bid, too. Remarkably, in a poll in April, The Daily Show host was tied with Gretchen Whitmer, JB Pritzker, and Josh Shapiro and ahead of Andy Beshear all sitting Democratic governors who have been touted as possible presidential heavyweights come 2028. Imagine what those polls will start to look like if Stewart formally declares for 2028, or even announces one of those exploratory committees.

(10,675 posts)And the young are turning away from traditional politicians. Hes good at blending humor with political commentary. Interesting that political comics have some of the largest podcast audiences. If he marketed himself big time on podcasts- he could probably win. He could bring on a popular Dem as VP.
We definitely need a candidate good at marketing themselves- one who is super savvy about social media.
Plus His stance on Gaza resonates with the young and with progressive voters. We see how popular Mamdani is taking a stance on genocide. Stewart could get the anti war young people.
As most Dem voters are now against the genocide- it would be smart to run an anti-genocide candidate. I like AOC but we saw with Kamala its hard for a woman to win. People on social media calling for. a Stewart/Bernie ticket. It will never happen but its interesting to see it being posted.
Social media will probably decide the next president - it probably gave Trump the win with younger men. Being a comic - he could probably get 50 to 100 million views on top podcasts easily. This is a different world now.

You can say it, he cant hear us, he added.
I know you know how fing old he is, and I know you dont want to say it because [Donald] Trump is so scary, but hes so fing old, Stewart continued.
When you watch him on television, youre nervous, arent ya?
Stewart pointed out: Im not saying that Biden cant contribute to society, he just shouldnt be president.

Hur, explaining his decision not to recommend charges over Bidens retention of classified documents while out of office, wrote last week that, if indicted, Biden could present himself to the jury as a well meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.
Stewart riffed on that on "The Daily Show."
Where did I park those documents? he said, imitating an elderly man.
Later, Stewart said, Biden was not about to take the special counsels characterizations laying down -- although chances are he was laying down."
Our Democracy was on the line. It was on the line. And he both sided shit.
Don't he and Mehdi have some more white supremacists to platform and lift up? They will never talk to or about Us.

(10,675 posts)YouGov poll said 19 million Americans who voted for Biden in 2020, stayed home. When many who didnt vote were polled they cited immigration and economy but almost a third said war in Gaza was the reason. Plus Trump went on all the top podcasts that young men watch. Plus -Trump lied BIG TIME by calling himself the anti war candidate. Thats why many Republican podcasters who are against the genocide are calling out Trump for his lies. Young Republicans at Turning Points cheered louder for the anti Gaza war speakers.

(1,617 posts)But I don't see how it helps to have him running for POTUS.
He could immediately be a powerful candidate for Senator or Governor or Representative in a red state. At a minimum he would draw huge fundraising and force repukes to expend a lot of energy fighting him.
We shouldn't shit on good candidates because they've made a mistake or we disagree on one or two matters. We won't have anyone to run if we have ridiculous standards.

Been one since 2017.
John Stewart doesn't know or understand the 13.9% of Black New Jerseyans.
We are also not likely to throw a Black Man or Asian Man with serious experience over for some entertainer.
I've knocked on doors in Newark, Jersey City, Elizabeth, Camden, Trenton, Morris County.
It's a pipe dream. However - he could carpet bag in NY State. A lot of folks there don't like their Senators.

(1,272 posts)A novice won't have the experience needed to fix everything, especially given the current Supreme Court. Even Biden didn't have nominees ready to go for every department and some he had couldn't get past the Senate. Given there's a significant likelihood of a Republican Senate even in 2028, we need a candidate who will know how to either get nominees confirmed for everything, or a plan for recess/acting appointments and then a plan for after that.
Not to mention needing to rebuild what's currently being broken. I want the most experienced, competent person that is capable of selling themselves to the public, not the person who only has experience selling themselves to the public.

I voted for all of them, yet did not feel they could WIN. All because of their unpleasant awkwardness, stiffness or rigidity, or the underlying misogyny of our country.
