President Trump's announcement on Truth Social that the 48th annual Kennedy Center Honors recipients would be announced tomorrow caught Kennedy Center staff off guard, according to a person familiar with the situation who requested anonymity because they fear professional repercussions for speaking out. They told NPR the staff is often "out of the loop" and "worried they won't have enough time to sell tickets and sponsorships."


Under President Trump's domestic spending agenda passed by Congress, the Kennedy Center will receive $257 million. That is six times what it normally gets from Congress annually.

I’ve been asked to host,’ he said Wednesday as he was announcing this year’s Kennedy Center honorees.

But while it was unclear whether this was intended to be funny, just as notable was the way in which Trump talked about his role at the cultural institution. To hear the Republican tell it, he has maintained a hands-on role, personally rejecting prospective Kennedy Center honorees whom he considered “wokesters.”

According to the center's history, it's funding and construction began during the Eisenhower administration. It was named the Kennedy Center in 1964 in part to thank Jackie Kennedy, who promoted a cultural center in DC, and because JFK was assassinated the previous year. There's a memorial to JFK in the building.

Would djt leave it alone if he was promised in writing -- passed by Congress -- that it would be re-named the Trump-Kennedy Center in the event he was ever assassinated?
