So, all this chaos is because nobody wanted a female president?

Damn those who didn’t have the guts to vote for Hillary or Kamala and also those who didn’t vote at all in 2016 and 2024! You’re mainly to blame for Trump destroying our democracy and our well being!

If this seems to harsh? Well, damn it, we would still have a democracy and not a wannabe dictator!

Trump would have beaten Buttigieg, because well you know how those manly men and women voters see gay people.

College education is seen as a very wimpy life decision.

Sad. Like in Arkansas the voters chose Sarah over an actual rocket scientist for governor.

It's encouraging to remember who got the most popular votes in 2016, at least, not that it mattered. Two presidential elections have gone by since, with nothing done about the Electoral College. Can you IMAGINE if 2016 had gone the other way? Trump would have never stopped raging about it. Where would we be today?

Just not enough. Our electoral system is easily exploitable and the head of the FBI foiled Hillary's win.
Many good women can run in 2028: Governor Mills of Maine (Badass), Governor Whitmer of Michigan (turned the state legislature from red to blue and is fiercely pro-choice), Senator Elise Slotkin (tough and experienced, Sec. of State Jocelyn Benson 9running for Governor).
These women are great but in a patriarchy people seem to push male candidates forward (even celebrity men with no political experience) rather than experienced amazing women.
Call out the sexism.

However, I did not retaliate by withholding my vote for President (as I fear would have been the case with many voters if Hillary had been the 2008 nominee).

Some of my fiercest rage is for people who voted Democratic in the 2016 primaries but not in the general election, and for the 8 million who swept Biden in but disappeared in 2024.

and don't forget that Kamala is also Black. i'm sure that was the bridge too far for many magats. as for the people who did not bother to vote, we should ask them.

I'm not convinced it was the major reason.

My Dad said she was a Communist. My coworker said she was a Communist. She's not a Communist.

As a whole, Americans are deeply stupid. That could be the reason as much as anything.

The fact is, Trump won by LESS than 50% of the vote (49.8% ) so that's hardly "by and large". Even many who voted for him were not necessarily "stupid", just supporting him for the wrong reasons

Were it not for Moscow Mitch, Trump wouldn't have been elected once let alone twice. Nor would we have an anything-but-Supreme Court that regards the Constitution as a quaint but meaningless inconvenience. Trump is the wrecking ball, but it's McConnell who planned our implosion.

There is a historical parallel in England, with Margaret Thatcher, a conservative party member, being their first female Prime Minister. I think at this point in our evolution there are too many that can't abide a liberal and female president. It's a step too far.

I actually think it is the other way around. thinj there is a misconception that in order for a woman to win the presidency, she cant be too liberal and needs to "play it safe," staying within a careful conservative box of expectations.

But -especially in times of massive flux like we are in right now, I think that is the exact opposite of what one needs to do to win. IMHO: Being loud, speaking their mind and proposing radical change -is the most likely way for a politician (regardless of their gender or what they look like), to be successful.

Published 11:48 AM CDT, December 22, 2016

WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Clinton received nearly 2.9 million more votes than President-elect Donald Trump, giving her the largest popular vote margin of any losing presidential candidate.

Certified results in all 50 states and the District of Columbia show Clinton winning nearly 65,844,610 million votes — 48 percent __ to Trump’s 62,979,636 million votes __ 46 percent — according to an analysis by The Associated Press.

Clinton is the fifth presidential candidate in American history to win the popular vote and lose the Electoral College. Democrat Al Gore, the only other presidential candidate this century to come up short in the Electoral College but claim a popular vote victory, received 540,000 more votes than President George W. Bush.
