...starting with their minerals.

What the fuck? Why is anyone giving anything to Russia? They are 100% the aggressors in this conflict. How can anyone argue Trump isnt compromised if this happens?
Trump may offer Putin minerals access in exchange for peace, Telegraph reports
Trump is scheduled to meet with Putin in Anchorage, Alaska, on Aug. 15, where discussions are expected to focus on ending the war in Ukraine. According to The Telegraph, Trump plans to present a package of economic proposals aimed at incentivizing the Kremlin to agree to a ceasefire.
The proposal package reportedly involves granting Russia access to Alaska's natural resources and lifting certain U.S. sanctions on Russia's aviation sector, which has struggled under the weight of international sanctions.
Another key element of the proposals includes giving the Kremlin access to rare earth minerals in Ukrainian territories currently under Russian occupation.

...Trump's just giving away things that don't belong to either Russia or the grifter-in-chief as reward for Putin attacking Ukraine and killing thousands.
It's not only appeasement but a weak and cowardly, or complicit, surrender; complete with a gift package of goodies for his boss.
Trump special envoy Steve Witkoff slammed for misunderstanding Putins plan for Ukraine peace: Reports
The concerns follow a three-hour meeting between Witkoff and Putin at the Kremlin last Wednesday, August 6, which sparked a series of events culminating in Trump announcing plans for a one-on-one meeting with the Russian leader in Alaska.
After the meeting, Witkoff, a real estate associate of Trump, briefed European officials on what he claimed were Putins ceasefire conditions. According to The Wall Street Journal, which cited unknown sources, Witkoff initially stated that Russia was willing to withdraw from the southern regions of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson in exchange for full control over Donetsk Oblast.
However, the following day, he reportedly gave a different version, claiming Putin would agree to withdraw and freeze the current front lines. In a third account, Witkoff allegedly said Putin wanted Ukraine to withdraw from Donetsk in return for a ceasefire.
According to reporting from German outlet BILD, some believe that Putin referred to a "peaceful withdrawal" from the contested regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia. Witkoff reportedly interpreted this as Russia agreeing to pull its troops out of those areas.

(10,433 posts)Alaskans are already totally pissed off by Murkowski's vote for Trump's horrible bill plus other things as well. This will totally piss off a large portion of Alaskan Trump voters. Their loyalty is to Alaska much more so than Trump. Trust me, if Trump follows thru on this, Trump's approval rating in Alaska may sink to the lowest of any state.

Thank you for your response.

When asked about offering Putin access to resources in Alaska, Trump said in part: "We're going to see what happens with our meeting. We have a big meeting. It's going to be very important for Russia and very important for us. And important to us since we're trying to save a lot of lives."
He continued, "As far as rare earth, that's very unimportant. I'm trying to save lives."
The White House would not disclose information when asked about the report, telling the Telegraph: "We do not comment on deliberative conversations that may or may not be happening. As the president stated, everyone agrees this war must come to a close, and that is what he is working towards."

...so, what other national resource is Trump offering up to Russia for attacking and invading Ukraine and continuing his deadly bombing all through Trump's supposed diplomacy and refusal to sanction Russia in any way for the military advances made under cover of Trump pretending to negotiate?
Now he says he's going to 'Russia' to 'listen' to Putin??

I believe the public backlash against such a deal would be so great that it's a nonstarter.

...Alaska's republican guv was sidling up to the idea today:
Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy has expressed to Newsweek his hopes for "a just peace" to emerge from the upcoming summit his state will host between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, along with positive outcomes that could arise from improving ties between Washington and Moscow.
The interview came just hours after Trump wouldn't rule out reports that he was considering striking a deal with his Russian counterpart that would include offer Russia access to Alaska's wealth of rare earth minerals.
Dunleavy, a Republican, noted that both nations have access to rare earths and that, "we have a lot of investors looking at Alaska," home to "a robust and growing mining sector we've had for some time."

KILMEADE: So the one thing that some people have said is, the incentive that could get his attention is economic incentives. Are you walking in that room with economic incentives for Russia in order to stop the fighting?
TRUMP: Well, Id rather not say because I dont want to play my hand in public, but whatever my hand is, economic incentives. And disincentives maybe are more important in a way, but incentives economically.
Russias got a tremendous potential. They have the largest piece of land by far.
KILMEADE: Right.
TRUMP: Its massive. Its got great wealth on it.
(CROSSTALK)
KILMEADE: But all they do is oil. All they do is oil and gas. They cant even grow they cant even farm.
TRUMP: Well, but thats OK. Oil and gas is a very profitable business.
KILMEADE: Yes.
TRUMP: Thats better than I make shirts, T-shirts.
(LAUGHTER)
TRUMP: Oil and gas, if you say thats all they do, if youre going to have one business, thats good. Thats the business to have, and they have it.
So, they have a lot of advantages going over most countries, because of the fact they have oil and gas at massive numbers, like we do. And, yes, economic economic sanctions are very powerful and economic incentives are very powerful, both.
