on MSNBC. Antonia Hilton is filling in for Hayes. Caught the very end. Michelle Goldberg was saying that much of the country has lost its collective will to fight. Then Antonia said I guess our country is not so exceptional after all. Then the show ended.
Have to say that Lawrence doesn't sugarcoat the truth and Rachel doesn't either, but they also don't sound defeated. We really don't need that right now.

(24,973 posts)but we need to stay on offense and even anger is preferable to defeatism. At least that's my opinion.

(130,516 posts)if you want some inspiration you should watch the YouTube recording of the meeting, especially the comments by Gene Wu from Texas.

(24,973 posts)Gene Wu is great and he is a great guest on the few shows I've seen him on. I would rather hear from the fighters than a "panel" of defeatists.

(4,988 posts)People are too soft, have too much to lose, are too unwilling to be inconvenienced let alone have their skull cracked fighting the modern day Pinkertons or the security for private property that are the police. No one wants to fight to save our democracy. And I do mean fight. Fighting and dying like the labor movement or civil rights people. Real skin in the game. Real willingness to sacrifice for the benefit of all.
Hell, a good portion of the country actively wants this to be a fascist dictatorship.
Weve amused ourselves to death.
There should be riots in the streets over this bullshit. Instead we have nothing but impotent handwringing and hoping that this corrupted system will somehow save us. It wont. It cant. And that should be obvious to anyone who is watching this nightmare unfold.

(1,492 posts)...until Republicans feel electoral pain, it's going to come down to making some folks feel economic pain, or blood in the streets. If the powers-that-be are committed to ignoring protests, protests don't mean anything. The reason I'm skeptical about valid elections happening next year is I've never seen so many politicians willing to walk the plank for someone else. And it's not unusual for several senior members of an administration to move on after two years. Where are any of these people going to go? It's going to be a kiss of death for any public company that puts any former member of The Trump Cabal on its board, or in its leadership.
Too many of these people are acting as if they're not worried about their futures. I really think there are far too many people who still don't realize where we are. The dictatorship isn't coming; it's here, and, outside of a few courts not named "Supreme", it hasn't been checked. We're acting like the European militaries in 1939, attempting to fight the nascent war as if it was the same as the last one.

(2,957 posts)..other than the power to protest, which a lot are doing, so the "will" is still there.
But, the people who do have a weapon appear to be ready for the battle. Newsom and some others are threatening to redraw their state districts if Texas does it. That threat might cool Trump down a little on his plans to throw the 2026 election. And for the time being, Trump is throwing shit at the wall but lawyers are taking them to court. Per NYT:
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2025/us/trump-administration-lawsuits.html
And all the "investigations" Trump has instructed the DOJ to engage against his "enemies" ain't going nowhere. There's no there, there.
His failure to stop the wars, failure to lower prices, avoidance of the Epstein thing and the botched deportation process is losing him supporters.
The only thing I'm concerned over is the 2026 election being corrupted by Trump in some manner.

(24,973 posts)He obviously understands the danger we're in and says that Dems should not give away their votes on the upcoming spending bill. He says that Dems should fight as a team. I agree with that. He says that he thinks the American public is up for a fight over values.
