Does anybody else see this meeting of Trump and Putin being similar to the Neville Chamberlain and Hitler meeting in Munich in 1938 where Chamberlain gave Hitler the Sudetenland.
1) In 1938 Czechoslovakia which the Sudetenland was part of was not invited. Ukraine PM Zelensky is not going to be there,
2) Sudetenland was primarily German speaking. Ukraine is Russian Speaking
3) reports are saying trump will let Putin keep some parts of the territory he already controls. Hitler never controlled the Sudetenland but it bordered Germany.
4) Ukraine is rich in Minerals and reports are saying Trump is going to give Putin access to them. Czechoslovakia was rich in coal which Hitler needed for his war machine.
Feel Trump is making the same mistake Chamberlain did. Putin is not going to stop until he controls all of Ukraine.

His reasoning.."I brokered a deal for peace in Ukraine! Give it to me, NOW!"

(576 posts)He such a fragile person and jealous because so many people feel Obama was a better President than him plus a good dose of racism. His narcissism cannot handle it. Feels Obama received one so should he.

(61,094 posts)As you note, there are many points of similarity.
My first thought is that the comparison is a great frame for Democrats to use because it is accurate and in retrospect it was a bad deal. ( The only defense I ever read was that when it happened, Britain was not prepared for war and they then increased their preparedness. Whether that was true, it is absolutely not in the case of Ukraine.)
That said, I wonder if anything WWII is ancient history to many born as much as 50 years later. I have been surprised at how fascism has become almost less negative a word than socialism. Having been born in 1950, fascists, who we helped defeat, were the first enemy we learned about.

(2,964 posts)Putin is adamant about taking part or all of Ukraine, at any cost to Russia or Ukraine.
Trump wants a Nobel Peace Prize and a Trump Hotel in Moscow. Trump also desperately needs a distraction from his failed and failing, Presidential agenda.
And neither of the two give a damn about Zelenskyy or the people of Ukraine.
