Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla.) on Wednesday expressed his fear of being carjacked in the nations capital, as the Trump administration ramps up its federal takeover of local law enforcement.
And by the way, Im not joking when I say this, I drive around in Washington, D.C., in my Jeep, and yes, I do drive myself, and I dont buckle up. And the reason why I dont buckle up, and people can say whatever they want to, they can raise their eyebrows at me again, is because of carjacking, Mullin said during an appearance on Fox Newss The Ingraham Angle.
I dont want to be stuck in my vehicle when I need to exit in a hurry, because I got a seatbelt around me and that and I wear my seatbelt all the time, he told host Brian Kilmeade, in a clip highlighted by Mediaite.
But in Washington, D.C., I do not, because it is so prevalent of carjacking, the Oklahoma Republican continued. And I dont want the same thing [to] happen to me whats happened to a lot of people that work on the hill.

If he's afraid to serve in the nation's capital maybe he should go home.

(69,648 posts)The Republicans have always fanned the flames of fear and hatred against Black and brown people. Now they have permission to say it right out loud - and follow up by killing homeless people.
This the worst period in the U.S. in my lifetime. It's horrifying.

(69,648 posts)Check out one of the very first movies, Birth of a Nation, released in 1915. The "nation" in the title is the Ku Klux Klan, and in the film it's portrayed as a heroic freedom-fighting response to Black men assaulting white women. That lie - that Black men were sexually assaulting white women - was used to justify atrocities and massacres against Black communities and an entire set of laws known collectively as Jim Crow. It was pervasive throughout the 20th century until the Civil Rights Acts outlawed it, but the hatred and fear are always there.
The Southern Strategy used white people's anger and fear about Black people to promote Republican politicians. The only reason it worked is because the anger and fear were already there.

I guess "In case I have to exit the car quickly" pretty much is another way of saying that.
I trained to be a paramedic and have been at accidents where a seatbelt wasn't worn. No good results.
