Call a Tariff a Buyer's Penalty

The inert word tariff masks the transaction underneath. And who does that help? Trump babbles about some amorphous piece of money that drops into the U.S. Treasury, but who's paying?

No, we need to name/display the victim/loser of Trump's shoddy scheme to create magic money.

The buyer is you, me, consumer, an importer, the shop owner, the manufacturer: anyone who PAYS extra to buy from another country. So call it a penalty, fine, fee, etc. But don't let Trump hide behind the bloodless word tariff.

It's a buyer's penalty on all Americans, imposed by their government.

2. I attach the word "tax" to "tariff" as often as I can. Tariff taxes are starting to show up in inflation numbers. . . .

3. It's a confiscation policy. What was yours now belongs to the government.

And it is taxation without representation.
