Total dweeb whose mother never let him have a minute of fun in his life.

(Disclaimer for the inevitable posts here decrying our making light of a crime. Kids on ATVs annoy motorists in my town too. It's a dangerous and annoying fad. But this dweeb is so obviously skeered and racist and using it as "proof" that crime is "not down" in DC - it's laughable.)

Should be blackballed from MAGA for trying to criminalize an ancient and honored rural American tradition!

Of course, this "youth gang" was undoubtedly brown or black, which was their actual crime, in his eyes.

The wheelie probably seemed "uppity" to him.

How dare they!

My town's local "wheelie gangs" are remarkably integrated, including kids of all ethnicities and clothing styles. Mostly young men but some women.

Maybe he noticed that Black, white, Latino, and other groups were doing wheelies together. Not that!

There was also a lot of right wing hysteria about "juvenile delinquency" in the 1950s and 60s. That too was aimed at urban Black kids. What a coincidence that it overlapped a time of desegregation and growing public efforts to repeal Jim Crow laws.

What next? Will he find that children are playing in a park? Running and shouting, while playing "tag"?

They don't go 150 mph.

The video doesn't match with the text, so I assumed that the text was what was meant.

"Someone" had a Charger 400 in the late 1970s.

The whole "muscle car" trend of the late 60's early 70's virtually screamed defiance of authority.

I was relating that to the ATV "gangs", which are actually quite tame in comparison.

and yes, I knew kids in the 80s that did that kind of stuff too, trying to get themselves killed!....kids on ATV's are quite tame.

ETA: I guess I'm just used to getting yelled at!

Things we did in the 1970s when the grownups weren't watching (mostly because they just wanted to have a beer in peace and be left alone):

- Made insects in metal trays from plastic goo in a very hot oven. Unsupervised. On our bedroom floor. Burned fingers.

- played with lawn darts with metal spikes.

- raided liquor cabinets at parties. Did not understand the concept of moderate drinking.

- see marijuana post above. With much older kids, er, adults. Who were definitely up to no good.

Etc. And yet many of us grew up to be contributors to society.

It's a fad right now for teens to drive around on ATVs and other vehicles. They weave in and out of traffic. They show off by doing wheelies and other stunts. It's annoying and dangerous but not the end of the world. Definitely far less dangerous than drag racing.

just the cars in the OP's video. None of them were in control once the front wheels left the ground, requiring them to breathe the throttle to get the front wheels back down.

He could steer it down the track with individual handbrakes on each rear wheel. Just a gentle tug on one would straighten out if it started to drift off course.
I just watched an American Pickers where Frank bought one of those trucks that had been chopped and lowered, and they showed a picture of that very truck in the video.

It was easier if you had high handle bars and a banana seat. Didn't know they were contributing to a crime wave in my neighborhood. Next thing you know, these kids will be littering and shooting spitballs.
