Remember how we were taught in Poli Sci 101 Baker V Carr mandated "One Person One Vote"

That's not quite the holding as we are learning. It just means redistricting is a judiciable issue.

they're not even giving lip service to any legitimate justification for redistricting.

sounds like they're not even doing a fresh census, they're just using the same old census and saying, hey, the maps that came out of the normal process weren't as partisan as we'd like.

a partisan gerrymander is usually regarded as an unfortunate by-product/outcome of a legitimate process designed to make sure people are equally and fairly represented in congress.

here, we're jumping straight to the unfortunate by-product/outcome as the justification for doing it in the first place.

note that gerrymandering is all about *undermining* representation. it's all about a group of legislators deciding how your vote is going to be counted. they're basically determining the outcome by throwing you in a district that either heavily leans one way or very strongly leans the other way, making your vote nearly irrelevant no matter which kind of district they put you in and no matter which party you prefer.

the mask is off, they are explicitly doing this for corrupt reasons.

good governments don't select their own voters.

The gerrymandering of those heavily Democratic TX border towns might come back to bite them.

Trump's voters are less likely to vote consistently, our coalition is more likely to do so. Add in that Latinos are apparently starting to regret their vote for Trump and those border districts would wind up being a dummymander. On our side, I can't see Illinois not running the risk of the same thing if they try to eliminate GOP seats. The three GOP seats are plus double digits and totally surrounded by Democratic seats that are single digit margins. I can't see how that map can realistically generate any more Democratic seats.
