Hitler was an admirer of Michelangelo's sculpture. In 1944 the Nazis stole his Madonna of Bruges, a depiction of Mary with the baby Jesus. Two years later the sculpture was found by Allied forces and returned to Bruges. The Nazis probably would have stolen La Pieta from The Vatican had they won the war.
