ALABAMA: “The verdict is in. The state’s tough immigration law just isn’t working out… American workers not mentally or physically fit enough to last one day…”

Alabama.

Why are the states along the Gulf of MEXICO so backwards? They're at the bottom of every metric that points to success. Why is that?

I'll say this for Alabama. I've driven the route from north to south and back a dozen times and the parkway is one of the best roads I've ever driven on! The road surfaces are smooth and the lane markings are spectacularly clear with reflectors and "shadows" behind the broken white lines. The rest stops are clean with plenty of parking and facilities in addition to plentiful tourist information. And the signage is superior. If only the rest of the state's services were as good.

Clue: they said Alabama's unemployment rate was 9.9%, 1% above the US rate. - the last time the US unemployment rate was as high as 8.9% was September 2011.

Clue 2: they refer to Alabama's new immigration law which was passed in June 2011.

But it's important to know that these points were being made (and ignored) for a long long time.

I've been to all of the them. The descendents of slaves there are great people. The whites, not so much. Of course, I had long hair when I was there so I was treated like the descendents by the rednecks.
