I used to be a very good amateur cook (I’m better now). The girlfriend said, since I loved to cook so much, I should invest in quality cookware. I did.

40+ years ago I bought a bunch of All-Clad. I still have them. They remain my go to cookware with an exception. About 10 years ago we bought a large Crueset Dutch oven. All of it cooks the way they did when I got them. Great stuff.

12. I kind of wish I had All Clad. But, right out of law school we needed cook ware.

A department store had a 20% off sale, and we went. We found a ten piece (a little misleading) set of Calphalon marked at $100 — with an additional 20% off. I think someone may have surreptitiously switched tags (we didn’t), and the store honored it. So we got about $400 of Calphalon for $80.

That was 38 years ago, and we’ve added a lot since., along with a couple of Analon pieces, some Made In, cast iron and carbon steel. To replace it with All Clad now would require a second mortgage.
