CHARLBURY, England—People in this bucolic corner of England were already a bit testy about hordes of visiting Americans in recent years.

Then the most high-profile one so far arrived for a family holiday: Vice President JD Vance.

For the past few days, residents of the Cotswolds have been subjected to the traveling circus that accompanies a senior visitor from the White House. Long convoys of giant SUVs with tinted windows guarded by a police escort wend past tiny roads and quaint limestone houses. Helicopters hover overhead. Men with earpieces stand near entrances to small walking paths where locals normally wander next to fields.

Roads near the tiny hamlet of Dean, where the Vance family has been staying at an 18th-century manor, have been closed and only residents are allowed through. Some in Dean have complained that local police or the U.S. Secret Service have knocked on their doors to verify their identity and even ask about their social-media profiles, according to local officials.

I do not say that in jest. He ruins the quality of life of those who love in a wonderful English Village. For what reason? Because he can? The only correct answer. Did he come bearing gifts? Did he attempt to share goodwill? Was he aghast at the town folks reaction to his horrible presence? He is beyond horrible. And on his Summer of 2025 Vacation Tour spending money that is no longer available to feed hungry children and hungry old people. Conservative values are a cancer.
