If Pooty was scared of you he would have given it up a long time ago.
I think he wants all of Ukraine as he would then have convenient access to former SSRs Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, and Moldova. Much easier then to draw them back into the fold and revive the long tradition of Russian imperialism.
