Oklahoma to begin controversial test to weed out 'woke' teacher applicants

Teachers from “liberal” states who have relocated to Oklahoma and are seeking to work there must take a controversial new assessment, given for the first time today, that “keeps away woke indoctrinators,” according to Oklahoma’s top education official.

Ryan Walters, Oklahoma’s superintendent for public instruction, told CNN that if applicants do not pass the test, they will not earn a teaching certificate to be able to teach in public schools in the state this school year, which begins for some Oklahoma districts on Monday.

Random thoughts- I apologize in advance to Oklahomans but who would voluntarily relocate there? If you are going to use a test to screen people use the citizenship test. That gives you an idea of what it is to be an American. I went to junior high school, high school, and college in where rural meets exurban Florida in the 1970s. I was already developing a world view, and I would say most of my teachers were "woke".

Obviously, if the schools are being this insane, the teacher themselves can't be the primary career move, so it was generally decided that it was a spousal or partner move. If I had to drag my spouse to Oklahoma for work, they would have to be paying me enough for my spouse not to have to work at all, much less put up with this kind of shit. Somebody said "military spouse." I guess.

Point being, the whole thing is performative. There is no big rush of teachers moving to fucking Oklahoma that they have to weed out the liberals or whatever.

It was still under a desegregation order. Most of my teachers were "woke". Most of my peers weren't. I look at facebook and voter registration from time to time. The "woke" ones became Democrats. The others became MAGA This was the 70s. Most of my trachers were anti-racist and anti-Vietnsm War.
