Dallas Doctors Describe ‘Dire Situation’ in Gaza After Returning From Medical Aid

Four physicians from the Dallas area gathered Thursday to recount their experiences bringing medical care to a war zone.

"A group of Dallas physicians gathered outside of Parkland Memorial Hospital on Thursday afternoon to describe what they see as a systemic effort by Israeli officials to block “much-needed medical supplies and personnel” from entering the Gaza Strip.

Four doctors from North Texas who have administered medical care in Gaza in recent months spoke at the press conference. They described treating injuries from airstrikes, gunshot wounds and malnutrition...

Sharaf, Al-Hreish, Hussain and Piracha are among nearly 100 healthcare workers from across the U.S. who have volunteered in Gaza and plan to travel to Washington next month to call for a ceasefire in the war between Hamas and Israel and unrestricted humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. The group, Healthcare Workers for Humanity, hopes to speak with members of Congress about what they witnessed overseas...

Many of his colleagues had their bags checked at that checkpoint; his, though, wasn’t.
“I got lucky. I got to bring in baby formula. I got medications in,” Hussain said. “We visited all the [malnourished] babies, wrote names on all the formula and delivered it to them. That was pretty surreal; from the shelf of a Costco in Plano, Texas, directly to the hands of the people of Gaza. But it's a band-aid. It only lasted for a couple of days. They’re relying on help.”

Added on edit:
Shock and Awe!! The CNN anchors just bursting at the seams with joy and pride. Shock and Awe! I hated it. I knew what it meant. Heck, I knew on 9/11 that millions would die in retaliation. Like I knew on Oct 7th what it meant. I wish I didn't have this Cassandra thing or that for once I'd be proven wrong.

aka the S&P 500, which many funds follow, bottomed on 10/11/2002. It had hit a peak on 3/24/2000, but war is good for economy even though, if my memory is correct, a quarter of the population of Iraq was displaced and many killed.

Nothing like a war to bring everything back to where it should be. Odd how it bounced back so well afterward too!

The wealthy depend on war to keep their investments healthy and corporations and the MIC to make them more money. It's always at the expense of non-Western, non-Christian nations of course and people with non-white skin colours.

Thanks for the chart! It's certainly incriminating.

and then sold our entire retirement account the end of March 2000 after reading and looking at historical charts, lost of Tons of sleep watching/waiting to reinvest! Anthrax scares, 9/11 all followed the top. Back in the late 90's markets were going up double digits, now if I had started looking a few years earlier my sale would have been too early. I just Lucked out with the timing when I started looking at charts and bond funds were paying over 5%. I'm not suggesting that people time the market in the short term, but the timing of the Iraq war vote and the bottom has always stuck in my mind. It all depends on one's age to retirement. There were other insignificant votes that made me take a look.

People at the bottom pay taxes, those at the top have people to find loopholes and pay less, Buffet said as much.

Sad that many in our country do not have the opportunity to expand their visions as they are living day to day.

War is good, should go back and look at charts re WW2.

Did not mean to stray from what is happening in Gaza, or our country or Ukraine, but the correlation needs more attention. Be well

Otherwise war is horrible, right? I often wonder if Americans would have been so casual about starting wars if they had been victims of it on their own land, impacting the whole population, like the Europeans? I'm a first generation immigrant from Central Europe. I've heard the tales of war from my parents and grandparents. I grew up with a loathing for it.

Israel’s Extreme Restrictions on Medical Supplies Entering Gaza Have Caused Death and Anguish: New Study

https://phr.org/news/israels-extreme-restrictions-on-medical-supplies-entering-gaza-have-caused-death-and-anguish-new-study/

“Each time I’ve traveled to Gaza to provide medical care since March 2024 the Israeli government’s restrictions on medical supplies have become even more extreme,” said Tammy Abughnaim, MD, a doctor whose experiences are highlighted in the study. “In my March 2025 trip, Israel stopped me from bringing in pain medications, disinfectants, surgical instruments, and baby formula. Inside the hospital, it is hell 24-7. Imagine trying to respond to a mass casualty event or a child shot in the head without basic medical supplies – no tourniquets, no beds, not enough ventilators. Israel has forced Gaza’s heroic health care workers to make impossible decisions.”

The Israeli government claims that restrictions on medical supplies are necessary because of these items’ perceived potential for diversion toward military “dual use” by Hamas. However, Israel’s list of restricted items is not transparently published or clearly communicated but appears overbroad in practice, outside of international standards, and regularly shifting. None of the 47 health professionals or humanitarian organizations interviewed were able to obtain a definitive list of banned items. The items that have been blocked from entering Gaza clearly have a medical end use and should be clearly exempt from restrictions. Furthermore, health professionals reported that confiscation practices were arbitrary and varied depending on the Israeli officer at the border..."

Since October 2023. No official lists, items absurdly and nonsensically designated as dual-use (pain relievers? Baby food? Bandages? Sterilizers? etc). If any truck contained these items it was denied entry and the whole truck had to be unloaded and repacked. Then the whole byzantine "approval process" had to be started from scratch. It was a systematic, deliberate method of slowing down and obstructing aid.

People forget that Gaza has been starved, deprived of medical care and the basics of survival for nearly two years. It was chronic, it's become acute now BECAUSE it was allowed to happen for so long it was normalized.

But it was never "normal" and the end goal (as with the human shields bullshit that enabled Gaza's destruction) was always to pave the way for the ethnic cleansing - as we now see openly discussed and set in motion by Israel.

What I don't get is why the phony rationales for the aid obstruction and the destruction were ever accepted in the first place, though I have some theories and they're not pretty.

Israel threatens to ban major aid organizations as starvation deepens in Gaza

MSF joins over 100 organizations calling for an end to Israel’s weaponization of aid.

https://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/latest/israel-threatens-ban-major-aid-organizations-starvation-deepens-gaza

"Despite claims by Israeli authorities that there is no limit on humanitarian aid entering Gaza, most major international NGOs have been unable to deliver a single truck of lifesaving supplies since March 2, 2025.

Instead of clearing the growing backlog of goods, Israeli authorities have rejected requests from dozens of NGOs to bring in lifesaving goods, citing that these organizations are “not authorized to deliver aid.” In July alone, over 60 requests were denied under this justification.

... Unless INGOs submit to the full registration requirements—including the mandatory submission of details of private donors, complete Palestinian staff lists, and other sensitive information about personnel for so-called “security” vetting to Israeli authorities—many could be forced to halt operations in Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and remove all international staff within 60 days. Some organizations have even been issued a seven-day ultimatum to provide Palestinian staff lists.

.... NGOs have made clear that sharing such data is unlawful (including under relevant data protection laws), unsafe, and incompatible with humanitarian principles. In the deadliest context for aid workers worldwide, where 98 percent of those humanitarians killed were Palestinian, NGOs have no guarantees that handing over such information would not put staff at further risk, or be used to advance the government of Israel's stated military and political aims...."

I am so effing sick of the machinations to further a genocide. Even more sick of the kid gloves Israel is STILL treated with by our Western leaders. Where are the "consequences" threatened a month or so ago? Nothing has been done!! The step of "recognizing" Palestine is nothing but a fig leaf and cover for their inexcusable inaction and cowardice. What Palestine, there won't be any left! Israel has just announced legalizing an outpost and building settlements in the one spot that would effectively bisect the Palestinian area in the West Bank and cut them off from each other. Bold as you please! And not a whimper from our leaders. Well, OK a whimper or two but no consequences!

when my husband went through his second stem cell transplant there were three people on our floor who had undergone stem cell transplants.

One night in the kitchen at Hope Lodge in NYC three of us, really six of us with caregivers, discussed religion for a very, very brief moment. One happened to be Jewish, another Muslim and us raised in a Christian family. The conversation quickly shifted to survival mode, treatments, medication, insurance coverage etc. We all lived together for three months and still keep in touch, minus one.

Wars have been going on for centuries over religion and in more recent times for resources and who profits.
