Legacy Middle School parents sue district over trans student's inclusion in sex-ed course

Parents of three Williamson County Schools students are suing the district after they say their seventh grade daughters were made uncomfortable because a "biological male" student who identifies as female was allowed in an all-girls sex-education class.

The parents argue the action goes against a Tennessee state law that defines a person's sex based on their anatomy at the time of birth.

The parents are represented by Rep. Gino Bulso, R-Franklin, who wrote that statute. Bulso is running for the U.S. House of Representatives.
An advocate for the transgender community expressed concern over how the lawsuit may be affecting the student at the center of the case.

From May 15-16, Legacy Middle School in Franklin hosted a "Family Life" course. The required two-day course discussed sex education along with an in-depth conversation about the reproductive system.

We have to be reasonable about keeping trans people out of bathrooms! And we have to be reasonable about keeping trans people out of sports! And we have to be reasonable about keeping trans people out of classrooms! And and and!!! /s

They're suing not because of their daughters' discomfort, they're suing for their own assumed discomfort. marble falls Aug 2025 #1
