The order comes after a series of legal setbacks for the families of Sandy Hook victims as they tried to collect money owed to them by the conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

A Texas judge on Wednesday ordered that all assets from the website, founded and operated by the conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, be turned over to a court-ordered receiver. That person would then sell them to help pay 10 families who lost children in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, Conn., in 2012.

The ruling instructs the receiver to take possession of Free Speech Systems, the parent company of Infowars, within a matter of days, and to seize the companys physical equipment, like mixing boards and microphones, as well as its intellectual property.

For years, Mr. Jones stonewalled the courts on providing financial documents during cases against him, and in 2022, both he and Free Speech Systems filed for bankruptcy.
Last year, a bankruptcy judge ordered that assets from Infowars be sold to pay the families. The Onion, a satirical website, won an auction to acquire Infowars, saying it wanted to turn the site into a satirical platform that would ridicule the kind of conspiracy theories that Mr. Jones has spread.

(179,571 posts)I have been friends with the Bankstons for almost 20 years. Susan Bankston aka Juanita Jean posted this on facebook this morning
Finally, they got it out of the federal courts and back into Texas District Court where it all started.
NPR was in court today in Austin and got a quote from that lawyer we all know and love.
The families are pleased that the court has placed InfoWars parent company into receivership, which will finally lead to accountability for Alex Jones' monstrously cruel harassment" said Mark Bankston, one of the attorneys for the families.
Judge Maya Guerra Gamble's order in Travis County, Texas district court appointing a receiver, Gregory Milligan, may herald a quick end to Jones' long run under his Infowars brand.
Theres lots of good information in the story for those breathing a sigh of relief today. Marks friend Avi (corrected due to mental instability in my head) Moshenberg, the bankruptcy lawyer representing the cases in Texas court, did an outstanding job of making this happen.
This article really made me smile
Infowars conspiracist Alex Jones is a big step closer to losing his studio and brand.

Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones could soon be forced to stop airing his Infowars show and give up the company's property, including everything from desks and microphones to the Infowars brand name.
A state judge in Texas Wednesday ordered Infowars' assets to be turned over to a newly-appointed state receiver, who will sell them to pay the families of the Connecticut children killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. They won a $1.3 billion defamation case against Jones after he spread bogus conspiracies that the shooting never happened and the grieving families were actors. His listeners harassed the families for years.
The move paves the way for the receiver or sheriffs to start the process of seizing cash and property owned by Infowars and its parent company, Free Speech Systems, within days. The families, who've spent some three years in federal bankruptcy court trying to collect what Jones owes them, could start seeing their first payouts through the state court in weeks or months.
"The families are pleased that the court has placed InfoWars parent company into receivership, which will finally lead to accountability for Alex Jones' monstrously cruel harassment" said Mark Bankston, one of the attorneys for the families

(179,571 posts)Don passed away a couple of years ago. The then State Party Chair and his wife told/ordered me to look after Susan. My running joke that Gilberto did not scare me but I am terrified of his wife. Susan retells this joke all of the time.
Mark and her other son Bryan are doing well. Susan's grandson, Ben, has really grown up and has started middle school.
I am worried about Susan.

(7,785 posts)They would have probably been satisfied is Jones' had simply admitted he made it all up and apologized for his lack of civility and humanity. But the longer it went on, and the more Jones' tried to hide his money in other countries and various bankruptcies, the angrier the families got. Put yourself in their place, and ask what you would have wanted done from start to finish. At this point, I would have been calling for prison to be the only justice right for Jones'... if not something worse under our code of "justice." AFAIC, after doing what I've just said here, I'd have been advocated some form of "murder by proxy" for Jones.
