A British Columbia legislator said he went from disappointed to enraged after receiving a pitch from a Republican state senator for Canadas four western provinces to join the United States.
Brennan Day, with the Opposition B.C. Conservative Party, said his office had to first confirm the authenticity of the nonsense letter from Maine Sen. Joseph Martin after receiving it last week.
Martins three-page pitch said if B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba were to seek admission to the United States after referendum votes, it would have to be as full American states.
This would not be annexation. It would be adoption, welcoming home kindred spirits, who were born under a different flag but who desire to live under our Constitution and accept our responsibilities, customs, and traditions, he wrote in the letter shared by Day.

(23,487 posts)Even in Alberta, the Texas of Canada, only about 30% support separating from Canada, and almost nobody wants to become part of the US.
All this talk of referendums, it is not mentioned that the referendums are nonbinding- no separation could occur without the consent of the federal government and the First Nations peoples.

(52,519 posts)Each day this crazy president assaults the sanctity of our Constitution and the Supreme Court and Republican controlled House allows him to erode the rights that we once took for granted.
This isn't going to end until we get 3/4 of Congress and reinforce the rules and rights that the Republicans are fighting to destroy.

They are so high on their own supply that they can't even fathom the fact that other Countries are both happy and proud of who they are.

(704 posts)for $100, Alex.
Senator Martin must be on powerful, mind altering drugs to even fever dream such nonsense.
Sure, lets leave our sane, democratic country and move into the fascist sewers that the entire world is recoiling from the stench of.

(9,482 posts)But stipulate ALL 10 Canadian provinces become states with equal privileges as the current 50.
Then watch the Reich-wingers howl when TWENTY new Senators are sworn in, only a couple as Republicans, flipping the senate to a strong blue!
Then watch them howl when 40-some House members are sworn in flipping the House a strong blue.
Then watch them howl when they realize those new members of the House come at the expense of current members of the House because there is a numerical limit on the House.
Oh, what a party well have!!
And this is why it will never happen.

Thanks to the article, just got to read some of Martin's idiot missive. Holy moly, I don't know what that jerk was on, but he needs some kind of intervention, and fast!
