As the rising cost of living continues to put pressure on consumers wallets, a potential new price hike at the grocery store is threatening to put a damper on peoples attempts at eating less meat and more vegetables.
In July 2025, wholesale prices for domestic fresh and dry vegetables skyrocketed 38.9% compared to a year ago, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

ABC 6 News) The cost of fresh food is on the rise as the price supermarkets pay to fill the produce aisle rose 39% between June and July.
That report is according to the latest Produce Price Index, which tracks the prices businesses pay for products.
It is the biggest price jump since March 2022 and the biggest-ever summer price hike.
