I had an important meeting with President of the European Commission @vonderleyen
in Brussels. Significant support for Ukraine in the context of the upcoming meeting with President Trump.
Today, together and in several formats, we are determining what we will discuss in Washington, D. C. It is crucial that Europe remains as united as it was in 2022. This unity helps bring a just peace closer, and it must remain strong.
We agreed on the necessity of a ceasefire for subsequent diplomatic steps, effective security guarantees for Ukraine, and continued sanctions pressure on Russia to limit its future potential.
I thank Ursula personally and the whole of Europe that supports us and our quest for a just end to this war.

(364 posts)and lay down markers. Trump needs to be seen as weak, and calling him out while saying no is important. Europe's economy might shrink without our goods, but they will eat, dance and prosper anyway, and they won't have the yoke of Trump around their necks.

Just a minor pinprick but one that delays military supplies & diverts troops from the front to guard the railway lines. It all helps prove that Putin's not winning & that Trump is bloody stupid to even think that he is, let alone withdraw support from Ukraine to get worthless nonexisting "deals".

From Google today:
How much of Luhansk is under Russian control?
Russia controls about 46,570 sq km (17,981 sq miles), or 88 percent, of the territory known as Donbas, made up of the Luhansk and Donbas regions. Russia occupies almost all of Luhansk and three-quarters of Donetsk.3 days ago

All these cities are located in Ukraines Donetsk and Luhansk regions, the so-called #Donbas.
All these cities have been already reduced to ashes by the Russian army.
All these cities were once full of Ukrainians children, families. Ukrainians whom Russian war criminals have either killed, captured, forcibly transferred, or driven from their homes under relentless attacks now cynically calling a "brotherly nation".
Having left nothing but ruins behind, Putin still seeks to seize and destroy more, to turn new cities into the same lifeless wasteland. Russias war is not just against Ukraines territory it is against the very right of Ukrainians to exist.
The U.S., European and other partners have the strength to make Russia stop. Strong, coordinated actions grounded in justice, sovereignty, and Ukraines territorial integrity will bring a just and lasting peace

(81,541 posts)Europe just drew the line.
No land for Putin. No gag orders on Ukraine.
Trump can play lapdog, but the EU isnt handing Russia a victory.

Europe draws its red lines in steel, while the White House appears to be sketching its own in disappearing ink. A curious diplomatic strategy: pre-negotiating an ally's surrender before the summit even begins.
After meeting Putin on Aug 15, Trump reportedly backed a plan for Ukraine to cede Donbasdirectly defying Europe's stance. As US support wanes and Kyiv is forced to *purchase* arms, Sec. Rubio admitted on Aug 17 that US life "won't be fundamentally altered" if peace fails.
When an admin treats allied sovereignty as a bargaining chip with an adversary, it's not deal-making. It's abdication.

(81,541 posts)I wonder if Margorie Taylor Greene's boyfriend will make note that Zelensky is not wearing a suit again?????
EU leaders are coming to WH in full force to support Zelensky just in case his meeting with Trump blows up again or he gets kicked out for not wearing a suit. They put out their wishlish but eventually, Putin won't agree unless there's land concession.👇

(520 posts)I will not be surprised if Dump just walks away from this issue, especially if Putin has compromising, devastating evidence of some event(s) that puts Dump in a precarious/dangerous position (Epstein, vote rigging, fraud, etc). Unfortunately, the event possibilities are nearly limitless with this fool. If this turns out to be the case, hopefully it will be a serious lesson for this country on electing someone unfit for office. The next few days should be really interesting.
