The settlement averts what promised to be a high-profile trial.
Newsmax and Dominion Voting Systems agreed to the settlement on Friday, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. The payments will be made in three installments by January 2027, the filing said.
We are pleased to have settled this matter, a Dominion spokesperson said in response to a request for comment.

The conservative cable news channel Newsmax will pay $67 million to settle a defamation lawsuit brought by the voting machine company Dominion over baseless claims that the 2020 presidential election was rigged, according to a new regulatory filing. The settlement averts what promised to be a high-profile trial. Newsmax and Dominion Voting Systems agreed to the settlement on Friday, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
The timing was striking: Right around the time that Trump announced a renewed crusade against voting machines, based in part on his conspiratorial assumptions about the election equipment, the public learned of Newsmaxs settlement with one of the nations leading voting machine companies......
Last year, a far-right network called One America News also settled a related defamation lawsuit with Smartmatic, although the terms of that agreement have never been disclosed.
Theres also, of course, $787.5 million settlement between Dominion and Fox News parent company in 2023.
Finally, lets not forget theres still one big case pending: Fox News is facing a $2.7 billion lawsuit from Smartmatic, and as The New York Times reported, that case is set to proceed to trial in a Manhattan state court unless the parties reach a settlement. Watch this space.

(182,093 posts)This made me smile. Lindell is probably effectively bankrupt but still has to worry.
MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell was caught off guard after conservative news outlet Newsmax settled a defamation suit with Dominion Voting Systems by agreeing to pay million over bogus 2020 election claims.

During a Tuesday appearance on his Lindell TV network, the pillow executive said he didn't understand why Newsmax would settle because President Donald Trump had hinted at an executive order banning voting machines.
"I think it's bizarre," Lindell remarked. "I think [network CEO] Chris Ruddy and the lawyers over at Newsmax are completely oblivious to what's coming out of the White House."
"It's the most nonsensical thing I've ever seen," he continued. "We're getting rid of the machines. They've all got to go. For Newsmax to do this, I couldn't believe it."
Lindell insisted that voting machine companies' "days were numbered" in the U.S.
