Kyle Griffin @kylegriffin1 37mTrump says that when he goes to vote, he's asked for his license plate.
"You know, when you go to a voting booth and you do it the right way and you go to a state that runs it properly, you go in. They even asked me. They asked me for my license plate.
I said, I don't know if I have it. They said, sir, you have to have it. I was very impressed, actually."

(35,000 posts)He's probably trying to say "license," but he can't come up with the right word, because that kind of thing happens with dementia. This kind of thing is becoming more and more frequent. A pox on those in Congress who refuse to utilize the 25th Amendment.

(18 posts)License.
License plate.
He's probly never actually Driven a car.
Never experienced a trip to the DMV.
His Life Journey were it not for pvt jets encompasses a few square miles in & around NYC and Palm Beach Florida.
He's never read a book.
When he is a place like UAE or Saudi Arabia where he might excite his food palate, they create and bring in a truck otherwise used to transport raw garbage & tell him its

"Loser" is not quite a sad enuf appellation, but it serves it's purpose while one searches for the perfect modifier.

(42,409 posts)I doubt seriously whether he's had a drivers license in all that time. Chump has full-time drivers in his employ, whether he's in Florida, New York, Washington or anywhere else. Of course nowadays the drivers are his secret service guys, but even before that, he had full-time drivers.
If he wants to show an ID to vote, why doesn't he use his US passport? Easy-peasy.

(34,296 posts)Oh and by the way in case anyone is curious its unconstitutional to require ID when you vote, ID is required to register, requiring that you go spend money to get anything before you can vote after having already registered is a poll tax.
And even if they give the IDs away for free unless its hand delivered to you without you getting up from your couch, its a poll tax.
Allowing any state to require ID at the point of voting is unbelievable to me.
MagickMuffin
(18,362 posts)Before then you went in showed your voter certificate and pick up your ballot, go to your polling booth, cast your ballot, drop off in the tabulator, make sure the US flag waves at you and be done for the day!
Since 2000 republicans have made it harder to vote.
And at the Texas DMV I had to provide my birth certificate to receive a new license, otherwise I would not get it removed. I also had to get an appointment before being seen. That was over a 3 month waiting period.
I suppose theres no going back to the good ol days of sanity.

(3,931 posts)In NY a person convicted of a felony has their rights restored immediately upon release from incarceration, regardless if they are on parole. Basically if they are not incarcerated they are eligible to vote.
So since he isn't restricted from voting in NY due to the felony, Florida law allows him to vote in Florida.

(4,016 posts)Fumbling words like this, as he does often of late, may be a sign that the day for the 25th amendment remedy is on the horizon.
This is not to disparage anyone else who has any similar sort of issue, this is part of aging for a great many people. But I know for sure no such other person is the President of the United States.

allegorical oracle
(6,589 posts)need ID to vote. A driver license will work. An official double-checks that license with the state records -- then you sign the voting book and your signature is compared to your license signature. Then they hand you a ballot.
How did he vote before he was POTUS -- or did he? Did he ever have a driver license? He mostly rode in limos all his life.
Life is a brand new trip for him, like Edward Scissorhands. Yet he's in charge of all our lives. Scary.
MineralMan
(151,544 posts)He meant "driver's license" but said "license plate." And, since gis brain isn't connecting words properly any longer, he wasn't even aware he had made a mistake, So, he just blundered on, changed the subject and scrambled some other things. "I ended six wars in six months" There aren't six wars and he hasn't ended any wars at all. But, in his muddled consciousness, he is sure that everything he says is true, because he cannot remember what he said beyond a minute or two.
Confabulation. A very common symptom in dementia. Nonsense just comes out, sounding like complete sentences, but making no sense at all and having no relationship with any known facts.
Trump is rapidly losing the ability to communicate, but doesn't know it and just blathers on. Nobody corrects him. Nobody dares to.

Anyone who's dealt with friends, family experiencing onset cognitive decline knows how much the sufferer PANICS when they start screwing up words. They try to correct it, they worry they'll do it again, they apologize....

(151,544 posts)It's very disturbing to see someone who is lost in their own mind. And the more they slip away,. the more they try not to seem messed up. It never works.
I do not have any answers about how to deal with the issue, not with people close to me and certainly not with the President of a nation.
I just hope there are people who will act to get help for someone like that. Very, very difficult, though, if the person affected doesn't recognize the issue. I dealt with that with a close relative. I managed to keep things from boiling over for awhile. And the person died before they could do anything disastrous.
Anyhow, this is familiar to many people. Sadly, none of us are in any position to do anything about it.

(42,409 posts)There was a time before he was married when he actually owned and drove a car. After college he worked for his dad, and he had to go around to the Long Island apartments to collect rent checks from the deadbeats. I read about it in one of his books. Or maybe it was one of Michael Wolff's books.
Needless to say, it was a long time ago. Once he got married and started raising a family he has always employed full-time drivers and often they doubled as body-guards.

They're just just for voting!".
