GAO study extrapolation: A 2017 DHS budget shows that $274 million was spent on border fence maintenance. If the remaining two-thirds of the Southern border were to have fencing built, the maintenance costs could potentially triple, exceeding $750 million annually, according to an extrapolation based on a 2017 DHS budget by the American Immigration Council.
