Yes, The Republicans were formed to fight slavery in the 1850s. Before that there were only Democrats and Whigs. And there was quite a change in ideology when Civil Rights began in the 1960s, and those opposing civil rights stopped being Democrats and became Republicans! Read your history folks.

by the titles, “Democrats” and “Republicans”. It’s defined by whether the person will change their point of view upon receiving new information versus those who will not. Back in the 1860s, the Democrats were the inflexible ones. Today, their title is “Republicans”. The title bestowed upon them can change, their fundamental properties don’t: they’re inflexible in the face of new evidence.

were thankfully for the Civil Rights Act. But in South, Democrats -- more specifically, Dixiecrats -- were the ranting racists/bigots.

That doesn't mean GOPers weren't racists, they just didn't need to be vocal about it because of the likes of Lester Maddox, George Wallace, Ross Barnett, and thousands of vile Dixiecrats.

Racists like this were not uncommon back then:

The A-hole above was never elected, but this segregationist was and served as Georgia Gubnor and Lt Gubnor:

Swung poor white people to the republican side. Period. And there they remain.
