Maybe we can buck trend, but I doubt it. We'll be sitting here 20 years from now debating the same issue. Hopefully, Congress will reinstall the Covid expanded ACA subsidies, but that's questionable too.

ANY government medical care assistance
ANY social services
Military equipment manufacturing
Food safety laws and inspections
before these services were first introduced.
No precedent for Medicare for All? Meaningless. Our government, lest some forget, is for serving the people. Someday, when we finally have enough elected officials who care about serving the people, we will get Medicare for all. Hopefully, it will be soon. There is no law granting health insurance companies the right to operate in perpetuity.

(1,987 posts)Universal Health care and mandatory insurance on all guns. Minimum $10 million coverage on each weapon.
Insurance companies have a guaranteed replacement market and the citizenry an immediate reduction in the proliferation of weapons in the USA.

(24,533 posts)Wait - I don't think that would work well for us.
But I do like your idea without my stupid NRA appendage.

(5,293 posts)(Even tho imperfect) had the best interests of the people as their guiding light. Now, I believe that those leading (oligarchs) our nation tend to believe that people are not necessary, were expendable and serve little purpose aside from consumption. I believe that the powers-that-be really believe that AI will replace most of our (skilled and educated) population with the exception of that requiring non-repetitive physical labor. They have figured out that they really no-longer need a consumer society when they have all the money. So, by replacing the non-essential people with AI, the remaining people will always be fighting to survive. Mostly, fighting ourselves. We are obsolete and a lot of us are supporting this future, knowingly or unknowingly.
