Ever since Target eliminated its DEI initiatives, Black people have been standing on business by not shopping at the retail giant.
𧵠âTarget is experiencing its 6th straight month of declining foot traffic, with store visits down nearly 8% and a billion loss in market value following its rollback of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.â

Heads up, anti-DEI investors

The decline follows a wave of customer backlash due to Targets rollback of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Foot traffic dropped nearly 8% overall at the big-box store. The corporations stock declined from $145 to $93 a share in 2025. This slump erases as much as $12 billion in market value, signaling the effectiveness of the boycotts reach and potency.
We are really committed to building a team that represents our guests, Targets former human resources chief had said in 2020 when DEI was ramping up. However, the subsequent rollback of DEI initiatives sparked swift outrage. Earlier this year, Pastor Jamal Bryant of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church organized a 40-day Target Fast, urging Black shoppers to divert their spending in response to Target abandoning its postGeorge Floyd DEI commitments. The companys reversal included abandoning a pledge to invest $2 billion in Black-owned businesses. In a CNN interview, Bryant addressed the retreat in values, pulling no punches.

(17,802 posts)I guess they will buy higher priced goods from that paragon of virtue Walmart.
But hey, they can still grab lunch at Chick-a-fillet and grab fabric at hobby lobby.

(17,802 posts)They were forced by customer pressure to change their policies. Changing back will just lose those who objected in the first place.
And all those good paying jobs, and excellent benefits will go away because some fee fees were hurt.
Look, i support dei. But the solution is political, not economic. You atent huting walmart, or home depot, or chick fillet by boycotting target - a company that tried to be progressive and got beat bloody.
Way to reward those on our side.
Angry? Good, take it to the polls. Dont hurt allies.

(27,558 posts)I said lets go to Barnes and Noble and check there and he found one he liked and brought there. We went back to target to buy a $1 toy and he only spent $3.25 there. Barnes and Noble got $75 from us instead of Target!
I used to go all the time but its my last resort like Home Depot.

(3,142 posts)I'm a Target shopper but I participated in the 40-day boycott earlier this year. I really didn't miss it that much. I never go to Wal-Mart (my mother used to call it Wal-Fart) so if worse comes to worst, I can always go to Meijer. I have to go Meijer to get some items that Target discontinued anyway.
Where is K-Mart when you need it the most?

It hasn't reached Kauai, though. The bus has a stop there that it goes by on its way to Cosco.
Their parking lot is always Full and Kids are always getting off there.
On a small IslandI I don't think there's much interest in that kind of "boycott"
I never have shopped at Target... so I don't t know what I'm missing.
I shop for food at local Natural Food stores with Local Organic produce.
