Where's JD? How does he get so much time off?

The Hill - Opinion by Lindsey Granger

Vice President JD Vance has been in office since January, and already he’s racked up more vacation days than most Americans could dream of in a decade. The man who built his brand railing against “elites” has basically become one — living like the very people he claimed to stand against.

His latest trip? A summer holiday in the Cotswolds, the region of England nicknamed “the Hamptons of the UK.” Vance rented a sprawling manor that goes for about $10,000 a week. Between his motorcades clogging tiny country roads and the protests that followed him across the pond, it’s safe to say his family getaway got more press than privacy.

But this isn’t an isolated incident. This is vacation No.8 this year.

snip

Then there’s Disneyland, which he shut down for his family. Then there’s a $2,500 Michelin-starred dinner in San Diego. And who could forget his birthday kayak trip, when the military literally raised the level of an Ohio river just to smooth out his paddling conditions. That’s not just elite — that’s emperor-level.

The bigger question is: how does he have so much time off?

(I ask WHY he has so much time off?)

Until fairly recently (say the last 50-60 years?), the Vice President often didn't do much other than preside over the Senate, which meant they had a lot of free time (given Congress was in session a lot less back then). Many (most) presidents didn't really keep their VPs in the loop on much, so they often sorta did their own thing.

JD Vance booed during hamburger handout to national guard troops in DC

JD Vance was booed and heckled with chants of “Free DC!” during a photo op with national guard troops at Union Station in Washington on Wednesday afternoon.

Handing out burgers to troops deployed last week by Donald Trump, at the station’s Shake Shack alongside the defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, and White House deputy chief of staff, Stephen Miller, Vance told soldiers “we appreciate everything you’re doing” and asserted: “We brought some law and order back.” Meanwhile, a crowd of demonstrators protested outside.

The crowd shouted slogans such as “Free DC!” and “From DC to Palestine, occupation is a crime.” Some also shouted expletives as the three men walked into Union Station and gathered at the restaurant, and continued as they tried to speak to reporters and eventually left.

Why America’s new crypto regime makes other countries nervous

The U.S. is potentially providing a powerful vehicle for tax evasion and other illegal activity worldwide.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/07/31/crypto-tax-evasion-worldwide/
https://archive.is/marck

Has the United States decided to be the Switzerland of crypto? The laudable aim of the Trump administration’s landmark cryptocurrency legislation, eloquently exposited by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, is to bring some much-needed regulatory clarity to the wild west of digital finance. However, by proffering an official stamp of approval, the U.S. is potentially providing a powerful vehicle for facilitating tax evasion and all manner of illegal activity worldwide.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Dollar-backed stablecoins — cryptocurrencies convertible one to one with dollars — are potentially the most important application of blockchain technology to date. This special class of cryptocurrency, which at present accounts for less than 10 percent of the $4 trillion crypto market, was the focus of the bill that is already law. To be fair, the act incorporated many good ideas, such as requiring that stablecoins be (almost) fully backed by safe, highly liquid assets, including Treasury bills and federally insured bank deposits.

Critics have pointed to the risks that, despite the precautions, there will still be runs on some stablecoins and that fraud will be rampant, particularly among the smaller players. These are serious concerns. The biggest one, however, which has thus far received only fleeting attention, is that the new law does too little to make stablecoin transactions as easy to audit as debit and credit card transactions are. Once out the door, stablecoins are tokens on a blockchain just like bitcoin and can change hands almost as anonymously as paper currency.

Yes, in principle, everything on the blockchain is public information, but crypto wallets can be held pseudonymously; you don’t have to reveal who you really are. On top of that, one can hold scores of wallets, and dollar stablecoin wallets can be issued outside the U.S. by unregulated entities, in addition to being traded abroad on lightly regulated exchanges. Sure, government sleuths can often find clues that help them figure out the true owner of a crypto wallet. They will certainly bear the necessary cost in the case of a major terrorism incident. This is hardly feasible on a routine basis, however. If crypto was that easy to trace, its appeal might collapse.

I doubt he's "On Vacation" . More likely he's playing errand boy and in between proving they can do any damn thing they want. They'll flood your house so they can kayak. They'll make a point of clogging the roads so you can't get to work or EMTs can't get to you....

Piss them off, refuse to pay the protection money? They'll send JD to eat at your restaurant - no business. Enjoy your bankruptcy...
