I'm glad I live here.

Sure, it has its faults -- our seasons are fire, mudslides and earthquakes -- but its diversity and richness in people and scenic beauty, when combined with a governor who is firing drones up Dementia Don's fat ass, makes it an exciting place to live.

I lived in South Carolina for a while, a state which is literally stuck in the Civil War. My landlord, whose great-great-grandfather was a commadore in the Confederate navy, spent two hours explaining in excruciating detail how the Confederacy was winning the war before it was paused. He was MAGA before MAGA was cool.

Moving to California -- as challenging as it has been at times -- was a breath of fresh air.

Did I mention that California has the fourth largest GDP in the world? That its share of the national GDP is nearly 15%? That it paid ~$234.5 billion in federal taxes last year?

For comparison, Texas contributes approximately 8.2% of all federal income taxes collected in the United States -- ~$128 billion last year.

Give them hell, Gavin! We've got your back!

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
