(11,005 posts)And now my neighbors are hearing me pig snort with laughter from looking at that! If they get mad at me for waking them up, I'm blaming it on you.

Thanks!

(11,005 posts)Lately, I've had a great horned owl in the trees right behind my house. He, or she, starts up at about 9:00 p.m., and doesn't let up until dawn. If it's not the owl, it's the coyotes howling like crazy. The worst of all?
Skunk.
Midnight, windows and doors open, and all of a sudden the smell of skunk. You've never seen someone move so fast to close up the house and turn on every fan in the place. Then pray the smell dissipates.

(26,595 posts)I didn't see, and a sound byte I found online matched it pretty well.
No matter. I look forward to owls, because they eat rodents, but all have been pretty far away.
No recent coyote sounds.
At my old family home, a neighbor had a (not so smart) dog who would repeatedly chase skunks. Got the whole neighborhood in on the action. I can imagine their tomato juice bill.

(11,005 posts)I've never had to do that, and I hope I get all the way through life without ever having to wash a dog once they've been skunked.
I'm so happy to have the owls here, even if they do keep me awake half the night. Used to have barn owls, and they would hoot, quietly, back and forth for a couple of hours a night. Since the great horned owl moved in, no more barn owls. As long as they're eating the rodents, they can keep me awake.
